Volk's problems all surface when he hasn't got a fight. He has a fight. You have to assume he is at his dynamic best and the demons are absent because he has this fight, and he may recognise it as the most challenging of his career, which fires him up even more. Flip side is, the desire to vanquish the Islam nightmare, prove that was the anomaly, not the norm, could set him up to make mistakes and fight ego first. And Ilia sure knows how to press buttons to get someone all fired up and walking straight into a trap. It's clever, because he doesn't say much about Volk, it's all about himself, how great he is, what his future self will be… and it renders Volk, or any opponent, as obsolete. The temptation to charge in going, "Have some obsolete in the face, mate!" would be strong.
Which is probably what a good portion of it is designed to do.
But Ilia does have that high output viciousness. It's all about if Volk can roll with it or nullify it. Sounds like people don't think he can roll with it. So… can the wily veteran nullify it?
