Mike Piazza and Pedro Martinez both debuted for the Dodgers in September 1992, and while they didn’t stay teammates for all that long, they stayed connected. Just, you know, not in a really friendly way. From Pedro defending his brother Ramon, to Piazza wanting to earn more than Pedro, to a few beanings and a whole lot of jawing in the media, these two Hall of Famers kept the beef alive.

Oh yeah, and then they both wound up playing for the Mets.

  1. Yes, Piazza wasn't much of a cather behind the plate, but displayed awesome power as a batter. Pedro was a little controversial at times, but one of the finest pitchers of his era.

  2. Clemens: 6-4, 205
    Piazza: 6-3, 200
    Mota: 6-6, 240 (!)
Mota was significantly bigger than Clemens (and Piazza)… But I can see why Pedro thought he was much smaller than that after watching him run away and hide in the dugout when Piazza charged the mound.

  3. Piazza is 100% right about the language. Learning how to speak English will help your team and your value. Look at the UFC there are rarely any stars that dont speak English

  4. Meh. I would always pick Pedro over Piazza all day, everyday. One is among the most dominant pitchers of all time, the other was a great hitter with atrocious defense on base runners.

  5. The Mets won. The next night what's his from the Braves beat the Mets at Fenway Park. I watched both Hernandez and Pedro suffer back to back arm injuries against the Marlins at Shea. And I watched someone attempt to steal 3rd with no outs while beating the Phillies at Shea. I never looked at Jose the same way.

  6. Piazza is right. They should learn English by default once sent to the majors. It shouldn't be on the English speaking players in an English speaking country to be forced to learn Spanish.

It's like forcing all Americans to learn Spanish because our borders are wide open.

    It Ridiculous.
