WHAT A MATCH. Even though it was 1-0 it was still intense considering the stakes both teams were playing for. Iran and the USA have had conflict for over 50 years and this match was very competitive. The USA pulled ahead by keeping a lead they scored in the first half throughout the rest of the game. Iran almost managed to tie the game which would have sent them through to the round of 16. I hope everyone on the Iran team makes it home safely. Hopefully the Iranian government won’t do anything heinous to these individual players. It’s a messy situation in Iran currently as far as I know and I’m worried about the players.
