  1. I was given the grace of the fishing Gods in finding a fly rod and reel on the shore, its case was absolutely wrecked but the inside was perfect, it was covered in bird poop

  2. You shouldn’t rig your rod up till your get down to the river….the best spot to start fishing is wayyy back there before you actually get up to the river 😂

  3. I live in Sylva, NC where lots of folk come to fly fish in the swift-moving rivers. The biggest issue I see is that some people fly fish down stream. Like, literally cast down stream the entire time they are I'm the water. There's a time and a place to cast down stream, but it should be a unique, rare situation.

  4. Let me preface by saying I've never fly fished before but the first two tips apply to all fishing. Absolutely spot on!! Don't prerig your line, for the most part you have no idea what the water looks like or what to tie on until you see the water. And #2, fish the bank before crashing into the water. Wonderful advice, I do both with spinning gear.

  5. Over and above bad casting patience was / is still my biggest challenge as a novice. Realising how NOT to rush and spook trout, learning to wait and spot them before blind fishing and when you hook up don’t strike like a maniac and wrestle them to the net. Still loosing 3 – 1 with those bad habits.
