      Bentancur was one of the architects of the Champions League qualification, good technique and great filter in midfield. His two assists for Kulusevski and Kane in the last game against Norwich were delightful

      These type of midfielders thrive in england. They are very good at winning the ball and taking the ball out of traffick and distributing. But england dont produce th3se types of players. They are always more defensive than offensive. Rice and Philip are examples. Its an english tradition. Paul ince Eric dier steven gerard jordan henderson all good at winning the ball but not bossing the midfield. Peter Reid Owen Hargreaves steve Mcmahon Michael Carrick were the closest but were never 1st choice. Its all about the english ethic putting in an honest shift and that caused them to continue to bypass the midfield. And they still do. England also dont believe in DLPs so now the wing backs bring the ball from deep or are fed the balls on the overlap. The only midfielder that can win the ball and distribute is Fabien Delph and they dont rate him. Harry Winks is a DLP and can play with a good DM but he is considered garbage in england maddisson is a great playmaker who can play from deep but he cant even get selected.. So it is root 1 football disguised as a 3 4 3. With maguire distributing the ball. Anytime they meet a quality team they depend on speed and individual brilliance. England were better with the tottenham brand Paul Gascoigne and Glenn Hoddle. Without it they will win nothing.

      The moment this guy replaced winks this tottenham team became better. Winks made tottenham suffer in midfield he was so average

      Huge fan of bentancur but against the better clubs he did struggle a little being caught on the ball. Similar to PEH they both were forced to play way too often and more than likely through injury. Add another couple bodies plus skipp back healthy and we are set in midfield

      The pick-pocketer. Beautiful defensive skills and as for this guy, an uncanny ability to win the ball from behind the player without fouling him. Just like a good play maker requires vision in the attacking phase bentancur is reading the opposite team ready to pounce at the right moment. He takes the ball off you and blasts into space creating a counter for his team and the opposition are standing there and they don't even know where he came from. This guy also proves that defending is about intelligence and position not going in sliding all over the place. Sliding should only be when absolutely necessary.
