Update: So sad to see somebody who had come over so much diversity and inspire others, to fall so low with this murder charge of killing his girlfriend.

400m competition format
The basics

The 400m starts with a staggered bend, with athletes running a full circuit of the track.
Competition format

The competition starts with heats. The number of heats and the number of athletes progressing to the next round depends on the number of athletes competing. In each heat the fastest athletes go through, as well as a set number of the fastest losers across all the heats. The following rounds run on the same format, until eight athletes are through to compete in the final.

The draw to determine which heat athletes run in is decided by their initial seedings (based on previous performance) for the first round, and then their performances after that. This ensures that the highest seeded athletes are not drawn in the same heat.

In the first round, an athlete’s lane allocation is drawn by lot, and in subsequent rounds it is dependent on their performance. The highest-seeded athletes are drawn in the centre lanes.
Keys to success

In sprint races, the time separating athletes can be as little as one hundredth of a second, requiring a photo finish. A good start is crucial, as is technique while running and the quality of the finish. The winning athletes must be relaxed but perfectly focused on their race.
Breaking the rules

The most dramatic error for spectators, and arguably the most cruel for athletes, is the false start. Once in the set position on the blocks, any athlete moves off the starting blocks either before the gun has fired or within 0.10 sec of the gun firing is disqualified. Athletes can also be penalised for running out of their lane or obstructing another athlete.

  1. Is there any way back for oscar after his release? Is there a path in which he will be able to have a 2nd chance? Will the public be forgiving of him?
    A debatable question for sure

  2. He should not be in the olympic games. This may be an advantage or disadvantage. In a sport where your legs are the sport, he has none. Instead he has a mechanical device. If this was archery or something where legs where not required, fine. But this is not the case. This man however, is a true champion of champions, no doubts about that.

  3. Don't take this the wrong way, and my hats off to this guy, but; Because his ankles have been replaced with spring steel, he has an advantage over conventional ankles which rely on muscles to do with considerably more effort than spring steel takes to do. It's only a matter of time before an athelet will have his/her/it's legs deliberately removed and replaced with such apparatus as this in other such competitive sports such as high jumping, long jumping, etc etc etc. Hormones are illegal, but prostectics are not.

If a male is willing to alter there feeling and state publicly they identify as a female and devistate their comptition in female sports, then removing ones limbs and replacing them with prostetics deliberately is just around the corner.

  4. Hmmm I could never figure this guy out… How did he qualify for Olympics, you mean to tell me he was the fastest guy in South Africa… Makes no sense…. Then to murder that beautiful young lady because he was such a coward if he couldnt have her no one can….

  5. That's why I have no sympathy on struggling people
Has everything he could ever imagine, amazing talent , confidence to overcome anything & guess what.

  6. You know, I saw this race a couple years ago, and I felt pretty inspired. Now I feel more so disappointment, betrayal, and a bit of disgust. It’s truly terrible what he did.

  7. For anybody who says that paraolympic runners have an advantage because of their metal supports, that’s BS. The metal supports spring the body straight up so the runner has to work harder to propel himself forward

  8. I won't get into the debate about weather blades gave him an advantage, but he should of only been allowed to compete in one of the Olympics or Paralympics not both.

  9. Just curious, did Oscar also compete in the parraolymics in London?. Or, once you compete in the regular Olympics, you wave your right to compete in the parralympics?.
    Anyone know?

  10. He had a lot of testimony to make sure he didn’t have an unfair advantage. The tests showed he hadn’t. Unfortunately that can’t be said of this year’s Olympics, some things were definitely ver unfair to some athletes

  11. Why aren’t steroids legal? They are not natural. They improve your performance just like his fake sticks. They are not natural and they improve his performance. Just saying.
