Barcelona host Real Madrid on Saturday evening in Spanish football’s ‘clasico’ (classic).
As usual, tension will be high as the teams lying first and third in La Liga battle for supremacy.
Last weekend a nil-nil draw at Osasuna saw Barca missed out on equalling a Spanish league record of nine wins to start the season.
Atletico Madrid were also unable to equal the mark set by the Real Madrid side of the 1968-69 campaign.
Gerardo Martino and his Real Madrid counterpart Carlo Ancelotti are both heading into their first ‘clasico’ as coaches.
And Martino has the chance to mastermind the Catalan club’s first home victory over their arch rivals in three attempts.
Lionel Messi, who returned from a thigh injury against Osasuna, could set a new scoring record, meanwhile.
The diminutive Argentine is level with Real great Alfredo Di Stefano at the top of the scoring charts in the ‘clasico’ with 18 goals.
Both sides were in UEFA Champions League action during the week with Martino’s men drawing 1-1 at AC Milan.
Real recorded a 2-1 win over visiting Juventus the following night.
