  1. Trent is the only right back ever to play chess against a Grand Master. He didn't win, of course but try and beat him. The famous corner was not "taken quickly". Almost everyone in the ground was sold the idea that Shaqiri was going to take it, including me, almost everyone around me. Klopp and Henderson, who was only 20 yards away, both had their backs to the goal and missed it completely. It took five seconds for the crowd realise we'd scored and the question on everyone's lips was "what just happened?" Like half the people there, I didn't appreciate exactly what had happened until I was watching the slo-mo dissections three days later.

He may have a wand of a right foot but smarts are his main weapon.

And the idea that his defence is poor is not really born out by the Opta stat machine. He's an excellent right back when that's his job. It just isn't always his job.

  2. Trent is a victim of the culture that surrounds prem players at top teams – rival fans are as passionate about tearing them apart as his clubs fans are at bigging him up. If he was at Dortmund etc as a young player everyone would be scrambling to offer more money for signing him than each other, and laughing at the teams he rejected.
He's not a defender, he's played there due to the system under Klopp and having a wide range of skills making him versatile enough and his assists far outweigh his mistakes. He grew up as a midfielder and got into the team due to suiting a role when it needed filling. He broke records there, but thats because he's such a good player, not because he is such a good RB.

  3. The only one who beats trent defending stats is trippier
over the last few years . But he is having a bad few weeks lately. Trent has more goals and assists as marchello and danny alves combined at 25

  4. something i noticed is that trent is usually blamed for the madrid goal in the final, but when I looked at it properly you can see that trent has to pay attention to kroos aswell so he can't focuse only on vini

  5. Trent is always in the comparison discussion, he has set the bar so high that no matter what when the RB discussion is brought up you can’t not mention him. He still has so many years in top flight. He has a scarily high ceiling, exciting to see what his peak looks like.

  6. The only right back to be nominated for the Ballon D'or in 2 decades , and Trippier, Walker and Reece James are even in the same discussion? Honestly this is a real travesty. Only England wouldn't play trent every game. For example Brazil played a RB, and a LB who couldn't defend at all. Cafu the orriginal style of Trent, and Roberto Carlos. Brazil won a world cup with a left, and right back who couldn't defend.
