The ESPN FC Daily team react to an underwhelming performance from Argentina in their World Cup win over Australia, and ask if the form of Lionel Messi alone is enough to take Argentina deep into the tournament.

  1. Listening to espn people I often think we've been watching different matches. Argentina would probably have to walk on water to make espn give them some credit. Other "big" teams might play pretty mediocre games winning by just 1 goal or drawing but would be praised to the sky for just being them, big that is. We'll have to wait and see how things turn out. But this Argentina side is doing a great job given ALL circumstances

  2. The difference is, Argentina really need Messi playing his best every game, Ronaldo is depending on Portugal to drag on his legacy. That might be whys he’s trying to take credit for goals that he never scored lol

  3. ffs you want them to press the whole game when they played two days ago and probably still have muscle cramps. You know the WC still goes on after that match right?

Tactically everything went well, Argentinian attackers failed to seal at least 4 goals. that's all that happened.

2 DAYS both teams had to rest

  4. Lol. He's a 35 yr old who usually does not play astounding football for PSG or Argentina anymore, but he had a good game against AUSTRALIA, and the media clickbait merchants go nuts!!!🤦‍♂️. The media are such muppets.

  5. Not one pundit comment about how well Australia did against 3rd in the World. Tactics were right, brilliance from Messi and a keeper error from Australia. Maybe it’s not Argentina being toothless, maybe Australia were good.

  6. No matter how much Ronaldo keeps on comparing himself to Messi … Messi jus sincerely n always was n still is that lil bit better… Another n a whole new gear …. a seperate gravy altogether which the whole planet along wiy Ronaldo himself knew all along 💯 🌍 ..

  7. Well looking at his track record i am highly doubtful he can. Only one goal in the knock out stages in 5 world cups. These are facts and not an opinion. And they will be going against a stronger team next round so let's see how he does.

  9. They definitely have the grit to make it to the final whether it’s through scrappy play, or just barely edging out the other team.

But as I’ve been saying myself, they gotta create more chances. The major difference in the last two World Cup winners (since I didn’t watch the World Cup before 2014) is that the winners always scored goals. Throughout the whole tournament they scored, and it was either one player scoring a lot or just a bunch of different players scoring. That is the difference between Germany and Argentina in 2014, the difference between Croatia and France which was actually worse than 2014. Croatia never winning a game in the first 90 minutes during the knock out stages was one of the worse things to ever witness. I bet Croatian fans were worried since they were constantly playing more minutes and always having to score at the very end of extra time.

Messi is in form, but his team need to be better. They need to start shooting more, or start just getting into the box to shoot.

Against a way better defence they will struggle, but that doesn’t mean they won’t win. More fans, more grit to win, and not being lesser than other teams could win them to tournament. Messi has definitely gotta get the ball and shoot more. He can’t go pass the whole team anymore, but just by watching you can see he’s way better at passing, way better at picking his shots than people most of the time. His body may have slowed him down but his talent and experience will always be there.

  10. Netherlands is not a strong rival ! Better Than the others Argentina played but come on… we all watching the same World Cup.
Argentina needs to focus move the ball faster and press, chances will flow…
