Croatia goalkeeper Danijel Subasic saved numerous penalties during the World Cup this summer, but he probably wasn’t expecting to make his most important save to date during the nation’s homecoming ceremony, this week. They may have suffered defeat at the hands of France at the weekend, but the 23-man Croatia squad were welcomed with open arms by approximately 500,000 fans as they touched down in Zagreb, receiving a heroes welcome on their return. Danijel Subašić is a brilliant reminder that modern goalkeepers needn’t be showboats to be effective.
