Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo will be sidelined for 12 weeks due to an ankle injury, ruling him out of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Cameroon. Mbeumo sustained the injury during a match against Brighton & Hove Albion and underwent ankle surgery. The 24-year-old had been in excellent form for Brentford, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in 15 appearances. Mbeumo, who was born in France, joined Brentford in 2019 and qualified to play for Cameroon through his family. He made his debut for the national team last year and has since made 14 appearances, scoring three goals. Cameroon is set to face Senegal, Guinea, and The Gambia in the AFCON group stage. Mbeumo’s absence will be a significant blow to Brentford, as he has been their main attacking threat, being directly involved in 43.5% of their goals this season. With Ivan Toney also serving a suspension, there will be pressure on other players like Yoane Wissa and Keane Lewis-Potter to step up.
