Nathaniel Clyne reveals why he snubbed Neil Warnock and Cardiff City to join Bournemouth. Nathaniel Clyne has revealed that he joined Bournemouth ahead of Cardiff City because he wanted to play under Eddie Howe.

Cardiff were favourites to sign Clyne on loan from Liverpool after productive talks last week but the 27-year-old opted to move to Bournemouth instead.

Cardiff boss Neil Warnock was furious with Clyne’s decision and said Liverpool ‘lacked class’ for allowing the player to join Bournemouth.

‘I was disappointed with Nathaniel Clyne, having known the player and giving him his debut,’ said Warnock.

‘I’m not just disappointed with the boy himself, but with Liverpool as well for not ringing me, not telling me.

‘To see it on television when I’ve done everything right and they have promised he is my player this week, it’s a disgrace and a lack of class.’

But Clyne, who made his debut in Bournemouth’s 3-1 defeat to Brighton in the FA Cup on Saturday, admits he was keen to work under Howe.

‘Bournemouth have a great manager and that’s what urged me to come here,’ said Clyne.

‘I’ve looked at how Bournemouth play and it’s similar to my style.

‘I’ve gone a whole season-and-a-half without really playing consistent football, which is unusual for me.

‘Knowing you’re fit and can go out there and play but constantly not getting selected is a bit disappointing.

‘I’d rather go out and find another club which would give me the opportunities to play games.’
