ESPN FC’s Alejandro Moreno, Craig Burley, Gab Marcotti and Dan Thomas react to comments from former Barcelona, Ajax, Bayern Munich and Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal, who said Lionel Messi is not a team player. The panel are in agreement he was completely wrong about that, with Moreno pointing out there were times Messi had to carry La Liga champions Barcelona by himself this season.

  1. No doubt Pele could have adjusted and played according to modern standards.
But Lionel Messi would have adjusted too!
In Argentina, he Played on pitches with garbage and literally dumps of shattered glasses.
For years in his teen age, kept putting injections every night on each leg, enduring immense pain, so he grows up to a decent height.
In this game only, the pitch was bad according to modern standards, but the ball was still not leaving his left foot.
Do not underestimate his willpower, dedication and footballing genius.
It would have been just an adjustment for him.
He is used to being kicked even when defenders know they will be sent off!
Remember Sir Alex Ferguson's quote "Great players can play in any era".

  2. He failed badly in world cups 2 times in a row 2014 and 2022 against messi. He will always remember Messi who did not give him the chance to reach a dream world cup final for a single time! Nature is harsh for him.

  3. Van Gaal and Argentina go way back haha. Seems like Van Gaal never liked Argentina. Starting with Riquelme. And in 2023, Van Gaal finds a way to complain about Argentina again
