Messi the king of dribbling? I don't think so? I'm not sure he even dribbles. He often moves very fast with the ball close to his feet making players scared to go for the ball for fear of fouling him. That is not dribbling any more than a player with speed kicking the ball past people and getting to it first to get away, using their superior speed. There is far more to dribbling than that and in that the only thing he does is the most basic skill most school kids know how to do of just pushing the ball from one foot to the other to and fro with the inside of his feet. To be a great dribbler you need to be able to do more than that, but equally importantly there needs to be a great end product at the end of it and that is what truly makes a great dribbler. What you find with Messi is that the dribbling is so exhausting and strenuous for him mentally that at the end of it he is no longer able to score a goal or give an assist for a goal and so misses with his shots, whilst the best dribblers and certainly Pele the best dribbler of all time will end his amazing dribble with an amazing goal or an amazing assist and that is why without doubt Pele is the best dribbler of all time and the standard other dribblers must work hard to try to emulate. The goal or assist at the end of the amazing dribble is what gives the dribble meaning, what gives it substance and what makes it truly great. Peace and love
