More than a year after the club began its search for a new third uniform with an innovative campaign on Facebook that allowed fans to design their own jersey, LA revealed their final selection on Saturday.
From the five finalists, Galaxy fans chose Carlos Rodriguez’s entry, which brings back memories of the inaugural season of MLS when the team donned a black uniform with colorful trim around the shoulders during their home matches at the Rose Bowl. When discovering the contest, the West Los Angeles resident immediately thought back to 1996 when he attended his very first Galaxy game at the Rose Bowl between Los Angeles and the New York/New Jersey MetroStars.
“That year set forth what this team is about. The team didn’t win MLS Cup that year, but this team is built to win and these colors represent winning to me,” Rodriguez told LAGalaxy.com on Saturday.

I never knew about this, but I looked it up and you seem to be right; LA does have an official flag and the colors are green, gold and red. That doesn't mean I like these colors together on a jersey, but I understand it and accept it more readily now. And let me be the first to say, thank heavens they realized the 4 stars look better in a row than in a weird upside-down T shape.
I have an original 1996 Galaxy jersey, but I'll be honest, the first years of MLS saw some of the ugliest jerseys in league history. The only one from the first year that looked somewhat decent was the DC United kit. Those old colors just don't mesh at all with the updated logo and it looks like a mash-up job gone wrong. I'd would have rather have bring back the actual vintage green and gold jersey from when they won their 2nd title with the GALAXY wordmark in front and original logo in place.
