Villarreal came out on top in a pre-season friendly against Stade de Reims, with a single goal from Boulaye Dia being enough to secure the 1-0 win at the Stade Auguste-Delaune in France.
The Yellow Submarine play their next pre-season fixture against Premier League side, Southampton, as they look to find form and fitness before their league campaign starts against Real Valladolid on 13 August.
French side Reims have a shorter turn around as their campaign starts on August 7, when they face Champions League side Olympique Marseille at the Stade Velodrome.
