It is no great stretch to say that Vitória Mendonça is the modern face of skateboarding today.

Having just been turned professional by her board sponsor Element Skateboards at CPH Open 2023, she has the world at her feet- but it wasn’t always this way.

From a humble background in Rio de Janeiro, her skating ability has raised her up to become one of the most visible girls in the worldwide sponsorship game today. Moreover, she has also parlayed her talent into a successful parallel career as a model.

Nobody writes scripts for life stories like hers in a world where young black women can face all kinds of prejudice. From the tough streets of urban Brazil to being nominated as Thrasher’s Skater Of The Year 2022, Vitoria is living proof that skateboarding is a dream factory.

  1. It's cool to watch women skate. But why can they do the most minimal grinds, Or tricks and people are blown away? Like they are killing it?
Why do they get a pass. Even from Elisa steamer? They are all good. But they do less than any man skateboarding. And get recognition. She's good. Real good. But she has more potential than she shows. She spends 2 seconds on a hub or a rail. I have done all of this. And haven't even been sponsored. But she's recognized fro thrasher? Blows my fucjin mind.

  2. Might just be my perspective, but me as a Dutch queer skater, feel like the Latin American countries have way more visibility for female skaters, I wish Europe was more open to this as well.

But please, correct me if I’m wrong
