Mason Mount has been a mainstay ever since he broke into the Chelsea team, through three different managers, and three different styles. Plus he’s Gareth Southgate’s first-choice attacking midfielder for England.

But why? He’s always there, but what does he do? Jon Mackenzie explains, Marco Bevilacqua illustrates.

  1. It’s okay to admit the media and journalists got it wrong by overestimating his ability. Look, he’s decent at best, but once you start putting him in “world class” conversations, that’s where you start to lose the majority of fans, because even outside of Chelsea games, rival fans question how this guy is rated as highly as he is by the delusional fanbase. It’s okay to admit he’s only a “good” player and that’s what he’s only going to be.

  2. being a jack of all trades is something he shouldnt become. i say this because if he is constantly having his position changed then there will get to a point where he doest develop futher as a player like we are seeing now. Same thing happened to Dele Ali when they tried making him an all rounder and it didnt end up well for him

  3. No lie we didn’t get a clear answer to way he does. Is he a creator, goal scorer?. Just sounds like he flexible. Chelsea need to move on from mount if they want to get back to the top.

  4. You could’ve just put a link to Chelsea’s social media accounts. The club is turned him into a K-Pop Footballer. There’s no way you would get Mo Salah or Harry Kane or any foreign player whose accent makes it difficult to understand them would be forced to deal with half of the ancillary distractions that Mount does.

  5. Jack of all trades master of none. Hes a good asset at running around lots, but ultimately if thats all that was needed then someone would sign up Mo Farah.

  6. I think Chelsea's biggest issue is us lacking goal scoring chances.
I believe the reason for this issue is that Mount plays the position of the main chance creator, but doesn't have the skillsets yet for a top 4 chance creator. However, as pointed out in this video, Mount is too good to drop as well.

Because of this, I think Mount catches a lot of flack from Chelsea fans as our performances are suffering due to this, but it's not his fault. This then causes him to become this sort of marmite character until he can improve his chance creation.

  7. I don’t really watch Chelsea so can’t comment on that. For England, I think he’s utter garbage. Consistently useless over successive international competitions.

  8. I get he’s a great player but I see people treat him like Jesus and act like havertz and pulisic aren’t fit to bag groceries for a living

  9. As a Chelsea fan, majority of the fanbase has no standards at all. You wonder why we haven't achieve minimum 80 points since 2017 title win?
Foden saka rice bellingham has more goals at club level than mount.
Saka has 2 goals at WC now, mount has 2 goals for this season all comp.
    Pathetic!!!

  10. I've never understood why mount has gotten such harsh criticism. He is a great player who can operate in many positions, is a good presser and has bags of energy, links up well with those around him and he has quality in passing, creating, getting into spaces and he can offer a lot from set pieces. The only thing I would say though is that maybe for both club and country there are players who deserve a chance to start more consistently as they have the capacity to potentially do better

  11. This comment section is much more fair and balanced on what Mount brings than Twitter's reaction to this video. I am glad as that says more about each platform than it does Mount as a player 🤣
