Chelsea fans believe they have found footage showing Mateo Kovacic celebrating Cole Palmer’s injury-time equaliser, during the Blues’ thrilling 4-4 draw to Manchester City on Sunday.

It was an all-action game that came right down to the wire, with Kovacic returning to Stamford Bridge following his £25million transfer to the Cityzens earlier this summer.

With City taking a 4-3 lead with just five minutes to play, substitute Armando Broja would find himself in possession inside the City penalty area, but was brought down by Ruben Diaz. Referee Anthony Taylor subsequently awarded a penalty, which was converted by Palmer.

But a video has been posted online by @LondonsFirst_, with Chelsea fans claiming that they can spot Kovacic celebrating the equalizer.

As Palmer puts the ball into the back of the net, the Croatian midfielder can, according to some fans, be seen turning away while appearing to give off a subtle fist-pump.

Kovacic first arrived at Stamford Bridge on loan from Real Madrid in 2015, with the Blues opting to bring him on board permanently in 2019, before going on to spend another three years at the club.

And some fans have taken to social media to claim that the 29-year-old still has a soft spot for his old club.

One wrote on X: ‘His mind is still in Chelsea, once a Blue always a Blue.’

‘Bro forgot he swapped teams for a minute,’ another added while one said: ‘Muscle memory.’

‘Man hit the fist pump,’ wrote another.

Kovacic, who won the Champions League and Europa League with Chelsea, made 221 appearances for the club across all competitions.

For City, he has quickly become a key member of Pep Guardiola’s side, starting in six of the 10 games he’s been available for.

His return to west London will be one of the most entertaining encounters in Premier League history.

Erling Haaland put the visitors up, scoring from the penalty spot after he was brought down inside the area by Marc Cucurella. Thiago Silva and Raheem Sterling would hit back with a quick-fire double before Manuel Akanji struck before halftime.

Haaland would give City the lead again just after half-time, lunging to tap in a cross, before Nicolas Jackson struck back with his third goal in two games to make it 3-3.

Rodri looked to have struck a winner in the 86th minute, before Palmer scored his second penalty in consecutive games, crushing Man City’s hopes of putting more distance between Arsenal and Liverpool at the top of the table.
