I’m training karate with a Kyokushin legend! This is a Japanese martial art known for it’s brutal sparring. Let’s see if I survive a class with Sensei Brian Fitkin – direct student of Mas Oyama himself.

Big thanks to William “The Swedish Ninja” Ustav for filming.

  1. I don't think it's super fair that these guys have intense condition training and by the time you actually get into these fights you are wayyyy more exhausted than they are lol. Super love your content!

  2. So…I was watching the 2nd day day of 13th World Karate Championship (SHINKYOKUSHINKAI KARATE) (livestream turned video).

I saw him (at 3:26, Jesse's sparring partner in this video) being a part of the championship!

  3. Yup that’s Kyokushin took that style back in the mid 80’s never wore any gear no padding. Went home bruised most days but felt like all the weight of the week was off my back.

  4. As a former practitioner of Kyokushin I was really surprised about wearing protective gear while sparing. As in the dojo I trained all sparings was doing bare feet and knuckles.
Also I admitt that you need to strenghten the tights to be able to hold up with all those lowkicks. Me I can say that I was lucky, as my tights was hard since a kid even without any kind of training.
When I recall my first ever sparing I remember that my oponent, which was much older and experienced, kicked me with full strenght. Next day my whole arms and shoulders was in bruises and my legs was not. I was barely had 4 bruises, while receiving as much kicks to the legs as I get into arms through the blocks.
Of course I even didn't made any succesful… damage… to my oponent, hahaha.
I loved training Kyokushin. I loved training Kempo Tai Jutsu in the same time ( started few months after my first Kyokushin classes). Unfortunetly the knee injury holded me for continuing practicing. But my love to the martial arts is still strong, as it was over 20 years ago.
    Greetings from Poland, Jessie.
    Osu.

  5. Karate is sorely underestimated. I trained a little bit in the 70s, hardcore crazy people then. They would punch or kick a hole in you. Real karate works. I am a grappler by the way, a disability chose my martial arts path so have never been biased against striking arts.

  6. What I've learned training in kyokushin for almost 7 years, without even realizing, is how to be calm and collected in stressful or urgent situations. I took a break from kyokushin for 10 years, but I resumed training a month ago after I found out that my local gym had shinkyokushin classes.

Just the other day, I was with my friends and we were walking our dogs in the mall, when these bunch of teenagers came along. These were a dumb bunch, and were teasing one of them who was afraid of dogs, and even shoved that guy and almost hit my girlfriend who was walking one of our dogs. My 2 friends immediately got in this bunch's faces, shouting that they shouldn't be doing that to dogs, that what they're doing is not only rude, but may cause dogs to react, and when they get bit, the pet owners will be held liable blah blah….. while my 2 buddies were there, amped up, ready to throw it down, I was absolutely calm.. While the other 2 were shouting, I was there observing the individual actions of the teenage dumdums. Now, we didn't get into a fight, whole incident lasted for about 30 to 45 seconds cos the teens apologized and then walked away, but if the scenario was a bit different, if it were really bad people, and no one was observant, things could have gotten pretty ugly.

  7. I love the YT video where the Kyo. Karate guy is going against a Muay Thai fighter and is just eating leg kicks like it's nothing. MT guy is struggling to do any damage…

THEN, he punches the KK guy in the face once, and dood is shook and has to go get checked out by the ref😆

  8. bareknuckle strikes are by definition weaker than padded punches, not only does the pads add mass but they also allow you to hit with more force without injury

  9. When I was a kid (13 years old) I was getting beat up and bullied a lot so my parents enrolled me at the Kyokushin Dojo a few blocks away from our house. It definitely toughened me up and taught me how to defend myself. I thoroughly enjoyed becoming a practitioner of Kyokushin Karate, it's intense and the conditioning training is no joke.

  10. My Dad took Kyokushin, introduced to Vancouver and Victoria as Kyokushinkai in the 60's and 70's, and some of these kicks are the ones my Dad taught me. He didn't go very far before corporate life took over his time, but what he showed me helped to deal with bullies. He said it was pretty brutal, but he loved it.

  11. My guy if you think a couple pushups and situps are bad you should try a day in kickboxing your whole body would collapse in seconds like we literally do so much cardio bro

  12. That brown belt treated you like a kindegarten child, so soft and gentle on you… Thats some good spirit he shows… He will be a great teacher one day with that patience and skill

  13. I gotta hand it to you getting out of your comfort zone, I knew you would try Kyokushin, it's tough, believe me, I train in Kyokushin, and it's not a walk in the park, I gotta say kudos to you for cross training in the art! OSU!

  14. Is this the style where they believe in really hitting each other with full force? Maybe that's y there r taekwondo schools everywhere but I don't know of a single school in my area for this style. The average person really isn't interested in the full contact experience. I've had 2 operations on my nose and want no part of going through it again.

  15. What I learned from Kyokushin was that to be able to give a beating you must be able to take a beating. The true essence of being tough I believe.

  16. I have practised kyokushine karate for eight and half years. Know what my sensei tought me about round house kick and rolling thunder kick? Simply dodge. And then you get the upper hand when yo opponent misses 🙃
