I am also a fan of the Nations League, I also like your thoughts on playoffs.
Basically, the planets have to align in such a way for the Republic of Ireland to get a playoff spot. Also, I'd rather integrate the Nations League further in the Euro 2028 qualification process (which in and of itself would be a mumbo jumbo as per UEFA rules only 2 host nations can automatically qualify and for Euro 2028 the hosts are 5) – have the Final 4 of League A qualify directly for the Euro 2028 tournament. And Would rather make League D a single group of 6 or 7 teams since it has the least number of teams
They should:
– Scrap UNL Playoff Qualifying and have the 6 best performing 3rd place teams in the group enter the play off
– then have 3 2 legged matches

Hot take : I personally like the play-off via nations league as they are. I’m aware that teams like Sweden, Norway have 0 chances to make it even to playoffs. While Estonia has already a place. Because it gives more excitement and diversity. Football is also about diversity
