New York Red Bulls and USMNT defender Aaron Long chats with ESPN FC’s Herculez Gomez about the transfer offers the club has received and turned down, from European clubs including Premier League side West Ham United and the Bundesliga’s Eintracht Frankfurt. Long says RBNY have been transparent with him on why they have rejected transfers that would move the 27-year-old out of MLS, lists which top leagues would suit his skill set, and names the Major League Soccer player that has been the biggest headache to defend against.

  1. I don’t want to sound like a hater but I’d would have had a hard time seeing this guy succeeding at Frankfurt or west ham over the course of last season (low game time, tougher competition etc) so he is fortunate not to earn a move. Great response to the question of who was his toughest player faced. Hope he gets his shot this year at his euro dreams after corona virus ends 🙂

  2. He had the chance to challenge himself and chase glory. But instead buckled down to MLS. Just another overhypedd kid like Bono, Nagbe, Trapp, etc….. He has reached his peak.

  3. I’m sorry he’s not good enough. Maybe Bottom end of bundesliga team. West ham are you kidding me? Issa diop is wanted by top clubs. Ogbonna was playing week in week out at Juventus. Balbuena is one of best South American center back. If they play with a three, Aaron creswell is playing there. Put it this way Winston Reid is miles ahead and he got loaned out to Kansas City. What do you think a worse defender would do? Break up diop and ogbonna partnership?

  4. This is why I don't want to see talented American players in the MLS. So many center backs in the Premier League can barely play a pass out of the back under pressure. Long would be a top 20 Premier League, top 15 Bundesliga center back.

  5. If you are a young promising player you should never sign with the MLS, you will be stuck. The MLS over charges for transfer fees, also you are signed with MLS league hq not your individual team, so even if your team agrees to the deal, the idiots in M.L.S hq will turn down the deal. The best for any non top 4 Euro league to produce talent and money is to become a selling league, even the Netherlands and Brazil recognize this fact. If players see that they will get stuck in MLS because of Don Garber's insane demands, they will bypass the league entirely. Even if you are developed at an MLS academy, you don't have to sign with MLS. I wouldn't

  6. Heard that he's gonna be on loan to Liverpool.. TBH, I dunno nothing about him, but being made the captain of the US Soccer team, he must be good..
