  1. Not sure, France remain strong, Portugal are getting better, and Germany will improve under their new manager and will have home advantage.

    Semi-finals for England I reckon.

A big weakness I think will be Maguire. At some point not playing has got to catch up regarding match fitness.
I'm a big Southgate man, but I have to confess that I'm now getting tired of it, Maguire needs to be phased out.

  2. I don't think you can say 'he's earnt the right to pick who he wants'. We have a seriously good squad and there are only limited opportunities to win tournaments, Southgate can't mess up our best chance in years again like he did at Euro 2020, got to win a Euros with this squad. Only France have a comparable squad

  3. This is a very good team, but player for player it falls short of the 2004 team. This team may succeed where the 2004 team disappointed miserably, but it has an achillies heel that the 2004 team shared – the lack of a world class manager. Southgate, it needs to be said, a very good man, is not at the same level of a Pep or a Jurgen. He is way too cautious, unreasonably loyal and slow to react to changes on the field. Where this team is far superior to all previous England teams in my lifetime is that they are a strongly bonded unit and that they owe to Southgate. Southgate needs a brilliant assistant that he is prepared to listen to.

  4. I really don't get the narrative that Bellingham is an 8. He's just straight up a 10 and should be our 10, he's a better player than Maddison by a stretch. If we play Rice, Bellingham and Maddison against good teams we'll be run over. It's Rice and Bellingham plus one other surely. As far as who that other man is is a tough decision honestly given our options. Fpl merchants will say Ward Prowse but how much does he really offer without set pieces? Foden, Bellingham and Rice is just suicide in this format in my opinion also, so what do we really want as England fans? We don't have a great DM like Rodri to sit next to Rice

  5. The problem is, this England team relies on individual talent to get it through games. That works against teams with lesser players, but when you come up against another quality group with a well honed tactical system, England always falter. The talent England have is unquestionable. But we get through games on moments of individual brilliance, not well-drilled patterns of play. Then if the individuals don't click, we have nothing to fall back on.

  6. Sorry James but you cannot pass off because they "Were in the last Euro's" as any kind of concrete proof the team is a good one, e.g. Not the whole Macedonia, but just the North part.
England had a relatively easy grp to get out of, by your own words "not a good Italy side", Ukraine average, North Macedonia, Malta.
They did the job, did what was expected by them, wish I could say (as Ireland never made it) they'll win it, because I cannot with 'Wake me up' when Wokegate's tactics improve (never!) at the helm.
And as far as Italy being Euro champions, yes they are but 4 weeks in football can be a long time, let alone 4yrs.
Spain outplayed them in that Euro Semi, which was the most techinical skilled game I've seen for a long time, and England had them there for the taking.
When England went 1-0 if you then swapped Macini for Southgate, England would have won.
Hell, if you sacked Southgate with immediate effect when the Engaland score, leaving the players play on mangerless, England would have won.

  7. So long as we have Southgate in charge we will not be winning anything. It’s no wonder everyone hates us when we say we’re gonna win stuff given what we’ve seen recently

  8. The way England seem to be playing 4-2-3-1 now they should have a double pivot of Trent and rice. Rice covers the defensive aspects while allowing Trent to sit deeper and find the long balls to Rashford and saka while also being able to help our Walker on the right hand side. I think it’s a no brainer

  9. If Southgate doesn't win this tournament you have to look at him in the same vein as Sven. Granted he'd be a more successful version but still a failure.

We could have won two tournaments already if not for some questionable decisions and tactics by Southgate. So for me he has to deliver in this tournament or keeping him on will look like a massive mistake by the FA.

  10. We are going to end up putting too much stress and expectations on the team. This is getting out of hand. Yes we have an amazing chance but stop piling on the pressure. We all know how that ends

  11. As a french , first time we giving credit to an English team! .. Please give credit whre it's due: Mr SOUTHGATE

  12. We all know players who somehow come out with the ball. My mind immediately went to Gerrard and Suarez. I love players like that. Absolute battlers, so much drive, nothing can stop them.

  13. I'm not jumping on the hate band wagon but I genuinely don't think we can win it with Southgate. His way of managing games when we are in the lead against top teams is poor. I just can't see him getting us over the line in the high pressure games. His in-game management in the euro 2020 final was shocking.

  14. Is this delusion not getting a bit boring?
You English say every major tournament that you’re winning it, it’s coming home etc. just to get knocked out in the Quarter Finals.
You overrate and expect so much from a team that on the face of it is bang average. It’s embarrassing

  15. Had a think on this and you're spot on. Honestly, with the logic of this, I basically agree with all of Southgate's decisions in his squad off the back of this. Thanks for your insight Jim

  16. Yep, that's it keep bigging up England so they get so arrogant and don't bother performing as usual. They will NOT win.

  17. The majority of people moaning about the manager or playing down qualification aren’t old enough to remember McLaren, Hodgson or Taylor. We’re not always going to qualify like this, and we’re building towards a tournament win

  18. Kane, Rice, Bellingham, Stones all world class and we have a lot of other quality options on the pitch also. We have every reason to be confident going in to the tournament.

  19. With a Kane led front 4, we're definitely a top 3 side worldwide. Not sure we're the most creative team, so don't think even with a better central midfield partnership these England players will ever see their full potential like Rice. But for Bellingham, injuries aside, he could be as big a hero and star as David Beckham

  20. We need to trust rice to hold that middle by himself and let Foden and Bellingham be free. Rice is more than good enough to do it and both foden and Bellingham have the desire to get back and make challenges
