The fact he was brought on was questionable in the first place england were doing great hes played maguire numerous times he knows what hes about you would think he would've wanted to see other players and give them minutes.Its not even about the own goal Ramsdale prob shouldnt have dived across the 6 yard box.the fact is the monent maguire came on england were static lacked the fluidity they were showing in the first half and thats not cause maguire has had a lack of playing time the bloke is playing to prove a point all the time instead of having full confidence in his abiltiy because hes been memed and jeered so often its actually affected his game because hes a shell of a man whene he plays and what good is that for england this is the best golden gen of players even better than the sven era and its decisions like this that southgate does thats gonna make england chug when it matters most loyalty to players doesnt win you tournaments doing whats right does in fairness to maguire he has been good at national level but this was all 2 years ago and more the euro final and the world cup demis is in the past lots of things have happemed to maguire since when the system suits maguire hes alright to a certain degree but when its not hes the weaklink at the back those tactics that were used back in past competitions that maguire excelled in back then arent going to be the ones that win england a tournament.The best of maguire in an england shirt is most likely gone his own club doesnt even rate him and that's a fact.

England managers have a history of picking players out of loyalty over form or whats best for the team. I'm 40 and its been going on for as long as i can remember.

How do England have a golden generation now? Croatia, France, Italy, Belgium have all been above England. It shows because England can't beat any of them. When England come up against a team that is on a similar level they can't beat them. It is alright beating Iran, Sweden etc but then drawing to Ukraine and USA just show how bad England actually are.
Loyalty to players is great, but you have to learn when to cut ties for the best of your team. That's what has held England back for years. You should always be picked on form. Ferguson knew when to cut ties, unfortunately Southgate is not a top manager, to be honest he is a bang average coach who has been lucky to work with these top players. No better than Dyche or Cooper at Forest.
Name one English defender whos genuinely worthy of a start for England ? there is none England has got any centre defenders is that southgates fault ? i dont think so , im not a southgate fan but if your gonna attack the man do use facts , rather than opinions , if we had a glut of talent in defence southgate would play the best available . but we simply dont have any options

The first caller is completely right, Southgate gets all this credit for Semi finals but outside of France we are by far the most talented and deep squad of players and then look at who we beat in Knock out stages to get that far, you'll soon see it's a complete mirage.
