The Sky Blues fell to a second defeat of the season at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Goals from Dimitrios Goutas, Karlan Grant and Kion Etete wrapped up the points for the hosts, cancelling out Matty Godden’s first half leveller and injury time header.

The hosts took the lead with their first attempt on goal. A corner in from the left was met by the head of Dimitrios Goutas and he directed the ball past Ben Wilson and into the back of the net.

Ike Ugbo could have fired the Bluebirds into a two-goal lead, but his first-time effort from a ball in from Ollie Tanner, went wide of goal.

Cardiff would be left to rue that missed opportunity as City found a leveller moments later. Josh Eccles with a corner into the box which was cleared only as far as Milan van Ewijk, who laid the ball off to Liam Kelly and he picked out Matty Godden, who struck on the turn and beat Jak Alnwick to make the scores level at 1-1.

HALF-TIME: Cardiff City 1-1 Sky Blues

The Sky Blues were forced into an early change at the start of the second half, as Tatsuhiro Sakamoto came on to replace Milan van Ewijk.

However, the Bluebirds would restore their lead on the hour-mark when Karlan Grant found himself in space at the back post and headed the ball past Wilson.

City looked for a leveller once more and they came close when Godden’s ball across goal was cleared to Kasey Palmer on the edge of the area, but Jak Alnwick made a fine stop to keep him out.

Yasin Ayari was introduced with 20 minutes remaining and he tried his luck from range, firing the ball wide from 25 yards out.

The midfielder came closest to finding the equaliser once more, this time working his way into the box to glance on a Sakamoto cross, but he couldn’t find the target.

Cardiff wrapped up the points five minutes from time when substitute Kion Etete found the bottom corner from a tight angle.

Five minutes into stoppage time and Godden had a second of the night, heading home a ball into the box from Jay Dasilva, but it would come to late, as City fell to defeat.

  1. This game angered me we were outplayed in every position no desire to win the ball back our first touches from every player was no where near good enough one touch play was non existent, communication non existent center backs not good enough cheap goals to conceed. Simply not good enough. I havernt seen us play this bad since league 2! I knew at the end of last season we would lose gyokeres and hamer and that we wouldn't be competing for playoffs again for atleast 2 years but this display is not a joke, It's an embarrassment

  2. Great vlog alex , things arent lookin good but im an afc wimbledon fan so im use to abject dissapointment week in week out , fun fact i lived in sabah for 5 yrs its in borneo malaysia f***knows why cardiff are advertising it!! Its still early season so no need to panic but as a travelling fan its so frustrating travelling back down the m1 empty handed , still 3pts saturday and all is forgiven football is a cruel mistress

  3. Unfortunately for you, teams have sussed you out in this division now. Drag you wide and you leave huge gaps up the middle.

  4. Nice vid matey. Good amount of fans you brought down with you last night. Was a bit nervous after you scored your 2nd goal, but we hung on. Apologies for the lack of singing but we we were all sung out after Saturday's epic win against the jacks. My throat was still hurting a bit last night lol! Your No. 7 looked very good when he came on. Good luck for the rest of the season, except of course, when you play us.

  5. Cardiff fans in these comments don’t have a clue. However we have still started better this season than last. Didn’t win until end of September last season

  6. Another great vlog. Crap result. Sadly had to watch on the tele as i was workinf but once again we sounded like the home team. Cardiff were silent all night until they scored and noticed how cardiff tv would try and turn is down. Useless bunch of sheep sh@ggers. 😂

  7. We look frail at the back but it's the inabilty to link between defence and attack that's worrying me. We saw it first at Exeter until Hamer came on and bossed the game. Ayari, Tats, Palmer and perhaps Jamie too don't do that link up earlier in the game. The Sheaf injury is a big one (especially with Airwick injured now too) but we need a playmaker in the middle of the park in January – if we can hold it together until then.
