As England prepare to take on Scotland at Hampden Park, Gareth Southgate has seemingly hit out at Phil Foden over the City player’s preferred role.

Southgate was answering a question about Foden’s desire to play in the centre of the park and The Sun’s Chief Sports Writer David Kidd, who asked the question, gives an update on Foden’s England future.

  1. Southgate had the audacity to bench England's 2 most creative players (Trent and Foden) in the world cup. So basing off this logic nobody is good enough for Southgate…. he needs to go and go quickly if England want to win anything

  2. Surely the question should be.. Is Southgate good enough to lead this golden generation!? Utter farce he even got the role. Awful manager.

  3. What an idiotic question. The one who’s not good enough for England is Southgate, who will fail another int. tournament with the best national squad in the world to play with.

  4. These pundit way of football outdated , they see the long ball and speed ways foden is England best player look how they look without foden like worst team ever

  5. Nothing to get excited about in beating or playing well against a poor team, we have been getting excited about that nonsense for years. Can you imagine having a player that is your second top scorer in your team and highest assist provider on top of that and then dropping him from your squad, let alone your team. This must be a historical first. Tell any opposition team we are going to do you a big favour, we are not going to select our player who is both our second highest scorer and highest assist provider and they will have no doubt you are doing them a favour to try to help them win or have a bigger chance of winning, but not just a favour, a big favour. How exactly do you think he achieved that feet of second highest goal scorer and highest assist provider, let alone achieved being the top assist provider alone or even second top scorer alone, if he was not good enough to be in the team let alone the squad. Seriously? Can you imagine a team getting to the final and a semi-final and then only managing to get to the quarter final after dropping one player and not being able to work out that a semi-final or final without him is wishful thinking. Our performance against Ukraine was poor and the reason for the poor performance is that we did not have our standard bearer on the pitch. Our most experienced reliable and most successful player that is in the debate for who should be the first name on the team sheet was not even in the squad. And that man is Raheem Sterling. What kind of nonsense is that? Our Moderic, our Messi, our man who has proved himself able to almost single-handedly drag us to a final of an international competition which is something only world class players can do which on a physical and psychological level alone is not easy and has proved himself the most reliable in our big high pressure games while the rest still play catch up was sitting at home. And why? Because a racist media that has been calling for him to be dropped year after year for the last 5 years while he proved these things are finally getting to the managers head and making him lose sight of the blatantly obvious.

  6. Didn't play foden against Ukraine struggled to score with Henderson and madison played against Scotland foden scores the first and England comfortably win what does that say and don't say Ukraine better than Scotland because that was shot out the water
