Games like these – away, against a team that really care about this cup – just come a little too early for Brighton in the season. Same in a way for the AEK game. Just count the combined first team starts for this 11, it's like, what, second start for Igor and Fati, first for Baliba, can't be too many for Buonanotte, something like the 4th for Verbruggen, Lamptey only just back from injury… you can't expect that team to just play every opposition off the pitch like they did ManU. It's a minor miracle the game was this close!
