Manchester City began the defence of our UEFA Champions League trophy with a 3-1 victory over Red Star Belgrade at the Etihad Stadium.
101 days since Pep Guardiola’s side were crowned European champions in Istanbul, we set out on another continental campaign with a Julian Alvarez brace and Rodrigo strike earning the win against the Serbian champions.
Red Star initially took the lead on the brink of half-time when Osman Bukari’s goal was awarded following a VAR check for offside.
However, Alvarez had City on level terms just 73 seconds into the second period before his free-kick on the hour – intended more as a cross than a shot – beat everyone and completed the turnaround.
Rodrigo made the game safe with a cultured finish in the 73rd minute.
City have now gone 27 Champions League home games since our last Etihad defeat – a run stretching all the way back to September 2018.

  1. This is why i support jullian did he not just help messi to win the world cup when he is given the chance to the 11 he never dissapoints. Im sure he will be a top 10 player in the future. But if he doesnt make a good move in the future and haaland stays at city he is forever maybe going to be in haaland's shadow like messi to neymar

  2. Congrats to Alvarez on a great game….but I have to say that the brightest spot in this game was Rodri…he has elevated his game in the last couple weeks and is playing at the high level that he is capable of. Doku also shining bright, and hopefully his energy in the game becomes infectious to the other players who sometimes seem to stand still too often. Phil…just keep doing what your doing…your turn on the ball and run is exceptional, just wish you would shoot a little more at 20 yards out. Akanji on defense is actually releaving as he can defend as well as push forward. All in all, your starting to gel lads, you should be scoring 3, 4, and 5 goals per game weekly. Best football team I’ve ever seen last year, and it looks to be carried on into this year. Keep it up lads, you guys are the highlight of my weekend.

  3. watching city play now days just gives me goosebumps
as a DIE HARD Real Madrid fan, it's delightful how city can comeback when they're down or win with a big margin like 5-0 or 6-3 against top European clubs! pretty sure they will win against forest rn Haaland just scored…
    Hala Madrid!
