Manchester City faced Al-Hilal in their first game since being crowned English Premier League champions.

Roberto Mancini was keen to get his pre-season preparations off to the best possible start and fielded several first-team stars including Carlos Tevez, Yaya Toure and captain Vincent Kompany.

Yet they failed to impose themselves during an uneventful opening 45 minutes.
Their best chance actually fell to one of their youngsters – Omar Elabdellaoui – early in the second-half, but he failed to get his header on target.

The tide soon turned in Al-Hilal’s favour though and Nawaf Al-Abed shocked City with a low drive that beat goalkeeper Eirik Johansen. City strove forward in search of the equaliser, but they failed to create adequate opportunities. Kolo Toure should have done better with this header from close-in.

They fell to a 1-0 defeat and they’ll need to swiftly improve with friendlies against Dynamo Dresden and Arsenal on the horizon, and the Premier League season due to start in just over a months’ time.

  1. Even though they won EPL last season they didn't really impress me. they were so close to losing it and taking into consideration that ManU had a really bad start and overall disappointing season. Will be interesting to see how far they get into champions league next season.
