Erling Haaland continues his scoring streak, propelling Manchester City to the top of the Premier League table after a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium. Jérémy Doku, Bernardo Silva, and Haaland all found the net in the second half, reclaiming City’s position at the summit after Liverpool briefly held it with a 3-1 win over Wolves.
City had an early chance to take the lead in the seventh minute, but Tomás Soucek cleared the ball off the line, and Alphonse Areola made a crucial save, maintaining the scoreline.
Another golden opportunity for City went begging when Josko Gvardiol delivered a tempting ball into the box, but Haaland’s attempt veered wide, much to the relief of the West Ham defense.
Despite enduring substantial pressure, West Ham managed to break the deadlock in the 36th minute when Vladimír Coufal lofted a cross to the far post, where James Ward-Prowse executed a remarkable diving header.
The second half saw a swift response from Doku, who leveled the score just 43 seconds in, dribbling menacingly past Coufal before finding the back of the net. Silva and Haaland then secured City’s victory with goals in the 76th and 86th minutes, putting them ahead with 15 points, a two-point lead over Liverpool.
West Ham, however, did not give up and came close to regaining the lead in the 60th minute when Michail Antonio set up Emerson, only for Manuel Akanji to block the shot. Éderson made a stunning save from Kurt Zouma’s header off the resulting corner.
Despite West Ham’s resilience, City, the defending champions, emerged victorious. Silva scored in the 76th minute, converting a well-placed pass from Julián Álvarez, and Haaland finally found the target 10 minutes later, securing all three points.
City now leads the league with a perfect 15 points from five games, holding a two-point advantage over Liverpool and three over Brighton & Hove Albion. Meanwhile, West Ham drops to sixth place with 10 points.
