Pedro Martinez 1999 and Pedro Martinez 2000 are two examples of the best pitching season of all time. Bob Gibson 1968 is commonly brought up, but in this episode of Baseball Bits, a Foolish Baseball production, I suggest that perhaps Pedro Martinez Red Sox star pitched the MLB best season ever.
In this video, we talk about his arsenal of pitches. That Pedro Martinez changeup is one of the best pitches you’ll ever see. We talk about some of his noteworthy games, such as various Pedro Martinez vs Yankees outings. This video also includes a breakdown of a Pedro Martinez All Star Game outing in Fenway, and Pedro Martinez Game 5 1999 ALDS heroics.
Some stats included in this video include ERA+, WHIP, and FIP. This video includes explanations of all three. Baseball certainly is a numbers game, so knowing how they work is key to understanding my argument.
Finally, we discuss an always tricky topic. The best pitcher in baseball history. I won’t try to bore you with some Pedro Martinez Cy Young comps, though. At the end of the day, it’s just about appreciating what a great pitcher did…twice.

My bob gibson in 1968 will always be… bob gibson in 1968, but you make a very compelling case for pedro
The montage at 14:10 just hits different with Undertale playing.
When my dad was explaining baseball to me, we used to sit down and watch Pedro and the Sox. Those Sundays were special
I dont see how you forgot Tim Keefe and his 293 ERA +. So, youre wrong, Pedro doesnt not have the best ERA+ season of all time.
Idiots Nolan Ryan greatest pitcher of all time
NOLAN RYAN
Leads in two hitters
Leads in one hitters
Leads in no hitters
Leads in career strike outs
Lowest BA in major league history
6 time struck out 300 or more batters
Pedro was good…but 5-7 years doesnt make u goat
NOLAN RYAN
YOU'RE FORGETTING 1934 SLIM JONES FOOLISH
Google Bob Gibson in ‘68. Martinez wasn’t close.
Best peak out of all pitchers
certain pitchers who had great control and worked the corners often got an extra benefit of the doubt, and if umpires were giving Pedro 3 to 6 inches on the corners…..well, forget about it…..that said, he was the best I ever saw in my lifetime living just outside Boston growing up….and I saw Clemens be the first to strike-out 20…..then he did it again—-and that's a record that may never be broken…..but Pedro, all 150 pounds and Jeri-curls, was the best I ever saw……a WHIP lower than the dead ball era……………are you kidding me/ Plus he had a nasty side with a chip on his shoulder for being considered too small to make it as a starter
Pedro Martinez was the best player I ever saw…..not named Bonds on ped's.
this undertale music is 🔥
Man when I was a young boy the highlight of my days was watching sportscenter to see how Pedro Martinez had pitched. Definitely, idolized Pedro and Maddux. Still go back and watch old games when I can find them, these guys were the masters!
Listen here you scumbag, Tim Keefe had a 293 (!) ERA+ IN 1880 WITH THE TROY TROJANS. HE’S THE BEST PITCHER OF ALL TIME. BETTER THAN PEDRO. THIS POST BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE TIM KEEFE GANG.
He had 100 more strikeouts than innings pitched. That’s impossible lol
Greatest season ever was Bob Gibson in 1968. Pitched over 300 innings with as ERA of 1.12. End of discussion.
What bout randy Johnson
Pedro was great , and his best 4 consecutive are in nay discussion of GOAT..but the win has to go to Koufax , far better w-l, far more strike outs, sl better era, ex as many shutouts, far more innings pitched. I will concede Koufax really only had two pitches ,but his fastball and curve were better … Pedro had better control, more so/innings, BUT he did not have to pitch 8-9 nine innings every night. I won’t dispute More hitting in baseball during Pedro’s Re< but much more reliance upon relievers.
Did not expect to see Molitor!
Maddux, mad dog – oral-bull dog- roger- Nolensville Ryan-sandy Kofax, Big unit -Willie S-w Ford-smoltz makes it 3 bravrs pitchers have better or close on most stats,I can keep going 🤦♂️ best Game -post season pitcher or best 21/2 seasons ?would be an argument
…But not best pitcher period.nah 😮
Pedro Martinez was Mariano Rivera as a starter
Who's your daddy!
Staff Ace for the 1994 World Series Champion Montreal Expos.
There’s some really crazy career stats out there for some players. The more wild stats I see about Tony Gwynn and Greg Maddux’s careers, the more convinced I become that they maybe have been the best pure hitter and pitcher respectively.
Pedro is a pedo. It will come out one day 🙏. Source: a family member of Martinez
How great was Pedro? Name another pitcher who has a drink named after him. I think I'll make myself another Martini to toast his greatness.
that 2015 HOF class was amazing
High 90s heat and a knee-buckling curve. That circle change should've been illegal. Dude was, by far, the best pitcher I've ever seen.
What about Sandy Koufax’s 1966 season?
Man, that pitch at 10:39 was so outside the whole way 😂
