Chelsea will make Monaco centre-back Axel Disasi their sixth permanent signing of the summer, with Fabrizio Romano confirming that the Blues have completed a deal for the 25-year-old.

The blues are ready to pay Monaco €45 million for a player who has risen in prominence over the last season

Disasi still has to complete the formality of a medical, which is set to be completed early in the week. He will sign a five-year deal with the club, with the option of an additional season.

He is the second defender that Chelsea have picked up from Monaco in two transfer windows, having signed Disasi’s central defensive colleague Benoit Badiashile for €38m in January

Disasi showed impressive durability for Monaco last season as they finished sixth in France, playing in every single one of the club’s 49 competitive matches across Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and European football. He scored six goals in these matches and created four more.

Disasi has the vision and distribution to help spring lightening quick counters. Indeed, 141 accurate long balls ranked 15th in Ligue 1 last season to reinforce a WhoScored style of play of ‘Likes to play long balls’. It could prove the ideal match between player and club were Chelsea to get this one over the line.

Chelsea didn’t have the worst defensive record in the Premier League last season, but injury to defender Wesley Fofana coupled with the departure of Kalidou Koulibaly leaves the Blues short of options at the back.

The France international would arrive with top-level experience for both club and country, and while Monaco didn’t have the best defensive record in Ligue 1 last season, much of that is down to the expansive, open attacking football the French side play. Losing Disasi will be a blow for Monaco, but a huge boost for Chelsea.

Chelsea are believed to have reached an agreement in principle with Monaco for the signing of the defender and even for the rumoured price tag of €45m, he could prove a solid pick up.
