Alphonse Areola | Best Saves | Highlights
Alphonse Fransis Areola (French: Alphonse Aréola, French pronunciation: [alfɔ̃s aʁeɔla]; February 27, 1993, Paris) is a French football player, goalkeeper of Paris Saint-Germain club, who is on loan at West Ham United. Player of the French national team.
He is a graduate of the Paris Saint-Germain Academy. He spent some of the first years of his career on loan at Lance, Bastia and Villarreal. While at the Spanish club, Areola broke the club record for the longest period without conceding a goal. The goalkeeper returned to the camp of the Parisian team in 2016, where he has since played more than 100 matches in all tournaments. In 2019, again on loan, he joined Real Madrid.
Areola has represented France in all the existing youth teams. In 2013, together with the U-20 team, he won the World Youth Championship. In 2018, already being in the main team, he became the winner of the 2018 World Cup, but the goalkeeper did not play a single match in the tournament.
Return to Paris Saint-Germain
After a successful season in Spain, Areola returned to Paris Saint-Germain for the 2016/17 season. Alphonse became a stunt double for German goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, who signed with the Parisian side the previous season. On September 13, Areola made his first appearance on the field after his return to the club. The Champions League match against London’s Arsenal ended 1-1, and Areola made his first debut in this competition. Subsequently, Areola established himself as the main goalkeeper of the Parisians, having won the competition against Trapp and by the middle of October had played eight matches, of which four – “to zero”. Shortly thereafter, the French goalkeeper had a slump in play (conceded 10 goals in 11 shots on goal), thanks to which Kevin Trapp regained his place in the starting lineup. In April 2017, Areola played on the bench in the final match of the French League Cup against Monaco (4: 1), following which the Parisian club won its fourth consecutive title of this tournament. However, Alphonse started the final match of the French Cup against Angers in the starting lineup, keeping his goal intact and allowing Paris Saint-Germain to win with a score of 1: 0.
On July 29, 2017, Areola received his second French Super Cup medal when the Parisians beat Monaco 2-1. In the new season, Areola again became the main goalkeeper of Paris Saint-Germain in the regular season and European competitions, while in the domestic cup competitions the head coach of the team Unai Emery preferred Trapp. On March 31, 2018, like last season, Areola remained on the bench in the French League Cup final, but the Parisians were able to win again. At the end of the season, Paris Saint-Germain won the Ligue 1 and the French Cup.
In the 2018/19 season, Areola again became a rotation player following the purchase of Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon from Juventus. Alphonse Areola played his 100th match with Paris Saint-Germain on April 21, 2019, when the Parisian club beat Monaco 3-1 to secure their eighth league title.
Rent in Real Madrid
On 2 September 2019, Areola joined Real Madrid on loan in a deal to move Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas to the Paris club camp. On September 25, he made his debut in the new club: Real Madrid defeated Osasuna with a score of 2: 0.
