It was 2-1 win by Iran,and I remember the qualities of Azizi,Mahadevikia and the legend himself- Al Daei. They were the better side,and I remember watching that game with two Iranian-American friends of mine and how emotional they were and happy for them,but at the same time bitter sweet. Hey,we lost against that scary Yugoslavia side with Mijatovic and not to mention Klinsmann and Germany. That WC’98 left a bitter taste to my mouth because if I am not mistaken we finished last. I also remember it was the year were John Harkess was cut from the usmnt;off course,years later we found out that he slept with Eric Wynaldas wife and made Steve Sampson make a difficult decision. Overall,it was just bad.

I was 24 when the US lost to Iran…I remember watching but having very low hopes as that 1998 team was terrible and not much to get excited about.

i was 13 and remember the 98 game against Iran. Iran wanted it alot more and were shot out of a cannon. This really put USA on the backfoot and I think we underestimated them. We cannot make that mistake again. This Iran team has world class players and we will need to play our best to win.
