      The goalkeeper was defending himself. This video doesn't even show the incident. The fan rushed onto the field and tried to lunge kick the keeper in the back, the keeper responded by getting him onto the ground and giving him a couple kicks for good measure. Poor decision by the referee, what a shame. Abandoned because one drunk idiot tried to fight the goalkeeper and got what he deserved.

      I am from Costa Rica and I think this is just disgraceful..Shame Esteban…Shame…shouldn't kick a man when he is down (even if it's in self-defence)

      the other person would not have voluntarily stopped hitting the goalkeeper. imagine yourself being attacked by a person coming from behind you, hoping that he'd have you by surprise. what would you do? knowing that the person meant to do bodily harm, disabling you so you could not do your job and also rob you of your dignity…? imagine someone coming to you to your place at work in order to cripple you only to have the satisfaction that the company you work for loses its market share… terrorizing the other workers as well. what would you if somehow you would evade the surprise attack? those who defend the bastard deserve to be in the goalkeeper's situation and risk a disabling kick/punch from behind, only to be repeatedly hit until someone intervened. what you do not enjoy done to yourself… do not do to others.

      Get this straight, when a fan attacks a soccer player, the players can and should attack the fan back.
      Refs don't get that, and often send off the attacked player for defending themselves.
      In those cases, the result in those situation is the end of the game, and that what the refs don't get, that when players get attacked and the ref send them off, this is a red line in the eyes of those teams, they will not play because the injustice of a red card for the attacked player is too grave, hence, NO GAME

      When this match was replayed AZ won 3-2…. and that fan had to report to police for next two years whenever Ajax,Az or the Dutch national team had a match…. llOOOl a bit harsh IMO he was a drunk 18 YO he also was sentenced to 6 months jail time if i'm not mistaken

      Although I do think Esteban shouldn't have kicked the guy, I definitely have a lot of respect for Verbeek for just not accepting what happened and sending his players off the field.

      the idiot who runed on the pitch was banned for the stadium cause he did something same to this
      after witch verbeek told his team to Leave
      the Ref sayed that ajax should win by the Rules

      The ref was right, those are the rules. I don't agree with them, the ref probably doesn't agree with them either. There was a whole investigation thingy around it, you can probably find it somewhere..

      what i dont get is that some people say the referee is right because he is following the rules about violent conduct against anyone. so if the keeper retaliates after getting beaten up by the fan he still deserves the red?
