  1. Foden should withdraw from NT.
    Simple.
Its just a waste of time and utter disappointment. Foden should focus on Man city. England would win nothing with this clown incharge. Foden should wait for next appointment

  2. James Maddison played centrally for England against Ukraine on the ball, only his defensive responsibilities were out wide.

Did you not watch the game? These new views are so bizarre they seem performative.

  3. Southgate’s so scared to lose that he isn’t willing to try and win. When it comes to it, you sometimes have to throw the kitchen sink at a team to get through a round or even win the whole tournament. I appreciate what Southgate has done for England, but after that final we needed to say thanks for what you have done, but we think you have taken us as far as you can Gareth, and that be the end of it. England atm are just happy losers, we don’t mind coming second or third which is absolutely the wrong mentality (we aren’t Switzerland coming third or Sweden at the end of the day). Southgate keeps playing England like we are Norwich parking the bus against man city, even though we keep managing to get “once in a lifetime draws” like Croatia in the semis (I forgive him for that looking back at the squad – but not the tactics), then Italy in the final, then France in the QF to play Morocco in the semis and so on… At the end of the day, I’m fed up with it as we have the best squad in European international football (bar France and Argentina) and we are squandering every chance we get through incompetence and nepotism.

  4. I said he was a crap manager years back and most were weirdly singing his praises as he walked around in a waistcoat. So not surprised by all these team selections. He has class talent like Foden, Bellingham, Trent and Saka and Kane. 5 world class talents. Klopp or Pep would have won a trophy with those 5 players.

  5. Anyone who thinks Southgate is a good manager are the same people enjoying the economic “boom” of brexit.

30m a week to ya bludclart chest

  6. I agree to a certain point, but the way he's banging on about Foden like he's one of the best players in the world? He's a great player nothing special…

  7. Everything stems from him being obsessed with shoehorning 2 sometimes 3 DMs in every game.
He won't even experiment against pub teams in the groups or friendlies.
Favourites FC every game, and certain players are never ever subbed however they play, i.e Kane, Sterling and Maguire.
Southplank has a Plan A for each game and sticks to it regardless of what the other team or coach does.💩

    "It's time to go"
As a wise man once said.

  8. Great facts. One of the best ever in Gerrard played some of the best on the right doesn't mean anything. I watched Foden in the under 23s and for England under 19 when we won he set the tournament alight. Foden needs to play and that's saying it as a Liverpool fan he's the one I worry about when we play city he opens up the play so many times.

  9. I think Southgate is making it harder for himself by saying things that leave him open to criticism like this.

He'd be far better just saying, "I'm doing what I want. I trust a CB I want to pick based on the fact that he's never let me down. I picked Henderson as I felt he would bring some experience. I gave Maddison a game out of position as we had an injury to the obvious candidate and I want to see if he can adapt. It didn't work particularly well in hindsight but if I picked a team on the varying public opinion, most still won't be happy. We've got a game against Scotland where I'll be giving more opportunities."

  10. Southgate said the other day that England lack depth lol, he's lost the plot.
What will happen is, England will fail miserably at the next world cup, then he'll get sacked, can't happen soon enough for me.

  11. Gareth, you placed maddison as a left winger where he never plays for his club or previous club. I cannot take you seriously. Ultimately though you are more likely to pick phillips than foden because you are so negative

  12. England have Foden, Saka, Maddison, Mount, James Ward Prowse and Bowen. So many different kinds of exciting, creative and still defensively capable midfielders. However, somehow we have a flat and inept midfield and we choose to play a 33y old Henderson?

  13. Southgate has foden and Trent at his disposal yet can’t figure out a way to get even one of them in the team let alone both he’s not a good enough manager

  14. "There is a reason why Guardiola does not play Foden as a Midfield Center".
I don't suppose it has ever occurred to dippy Southgate to ask Guardiola why not.
And what some are saying on here is so right.
Says he is not playing Foden because he is not a regular at City and then plays Maguire, is a joke.
The question is not "Should Southgate be sacked?
But more a question of: "How the hell did he get the job in the first place?!"
But then again the EFA does like a Yes Man.

  15. Southgate's been doing this since the beginning with the contradictory reasons for selections and clear favouritism. He's been lucky compared to other England managers with the players he's had and the easy runs in tournaments. By sticking with him we're throwing away our chance at a trophy and subjecting Kane etc. to wasting their prime years under a poor coach.

  16. The most technically gifted players that England have are Trent and Foden and, as previously benched by Southgate, Grealish. Players who have shone and won everything under Pep and Klopp. All players who Southgate wouldn’t / won’t play in their most utilised position. The manager doesn’t know how to utilise non-orthodox talents, at all. Harry Maguire and Kalvin Phillips epitomise him as a a manager.
