  1. I think you got the line up spot on including backup positions at each spot. This 4-3-3 line up can easily shift to a 3-5-2 in the blink of an eye with Davies moving up the left side to wing back and Buchanan dropping back from the front to right wing back. You would have Adekugbe and Laryea on the bench as more than capable subs. Midfield skill and depth is still the major weakness of this team. Against the US in the Nations League Final our midfield got eaten alive by the US midfield in my opinion. However since then Ali Ahmed has been a very pleasant surprise and the development of Choiniere has been notable although we won't know how good they are until they get some international starts. Well done Josh and Alex ! I would predict a South Korea 2-1 win over Canada and 2-1 win for Canada over Saudi Arabia in your fictional fixtures. I am thinking Mauro Biello will be given the reins for at least the Nation's Leagues matches and even the Copa America which Canada should qualify for. After that depending on results Canada Soccer could still make a change at Manager with almost 2 years left to prepare after next summer's Copa America is over. Given the financial situation and lack of stability at Canada soccer keeping Biello I think would serve the team well since the players have familiarity with him. My choice for new manager would be Smyrniotis from Forge at the moment. He strikes me as a no nonsense manager who would demand all players park their ego at the door and bench anyone who did not put the team first.

  2. Good team on paper. So frustrating that Canada passed up on those two friendlies with quality opponents. Now we'll be going in cold against Japan, who beat Germany today 4-1. Yikes…that game could get ugly. I wonder if the current brain trust (including Biello) rates Kennedy and McGraw over McNaughton and Waterman. In any event, those guys will have a hard time taking minutes from the top 4 at the back.

  3. Overall, I agree with most of the decisions here. 2 things I would say though.

    1) why say we don’t have any 6’s in the player pool then call up Oso. Loturi is probably the best prospect who can play a 6 role since prime Atiba. Not to mention, Loturi is more skilled than he was and probably has a higher ceiling while Oso is getting old and will be 34 by the next WC. Canada should take notes from the US, and NOT Mexico, when it comes to calling up youth and not their 30+ year olds who evidently struggle when it comes to playing against the top nations in the world.

    2) Canada has to ditch this idea that a back 5 is one of their best formations. That’s a formation used when you are overmatched (parking bus and relying on counterattack) and it suits your players because you have solid CB’s. But Canada does not have those CB’s. Johnston, who is arguably the best defender behind Davies on this roster, gets completely exposed whenever he is slotted in the CB role because he is not the best in the air and other teams with quality strikers who have size expose that.
