  1. For an ex-pro, I find Stevie Nicoll's comments about Maddison a bit strange (I'm not an ex-pro but I did have a lengthy trial with a club currently in the Championship). He obviously hasn't looked at his goal and assist statistics or, quite probably, not looked very closely at how Maddison played for Leicester last season. From my home in Italy I watched a lot of their games on Sky Sports and, it seems to me, it was largely Maddison's form and influence that dragged Leicester, after their terrible start, into a mid-table position before the World Cup. When Leicester beat Everton 2-0 away Maddison's performance wasn't just good it was world class. Unfortunately, after the World Cup, Maddison's absence throgh injury coincided with Leicester having a lengthy losing streak and when he came back, although he showed moments of class, it looked as though the responsibility for helping to drag Leicester away from the relegation zone again weighed too heavily on his shoulders. He's hardly looked out of place in the England side since he was re-introduced – excellent against Ukraine, decent against Malta – and if Harry Kane stays, and Maddison stays fit, Tottenham might well have a very good season. As for playing in a team that got relegated, um, who did Andy Robertson play for before joining Liverpool? Wasn't it relegated Hull?

  2. Ridiculous assessment from Stevie Nicol and Shaka Hislop he got 10 goals and 9 assists last season. And 18 goals the season before from.midfield. James Maddison is a top player, mid table is not "his level". I would have taken Maddison at Old Trafford, he is better technically than Bruno Fernandes and could battle it out for the number 10 position.

  3. Stevie totally ruined what Don wanted to say, he kept interrupting while the other 3 were trying to say something. One of the worst I've seen of the wily ol' Scotsman on this show, he needs a vacation perhaps to cool off. Spurs needed a creative, offensive minded midfielder and if you look at Maddison's stats that's what he is. He can score and assist. Good signing. Stevie would make a bad manager if he ever got a job in EPL, probably 1st to be sacked, a month or 2 into the season.

  4. Maddison isn't to blame for Leicester getting relegated Stevie the Clueless. He's an offensive player and Leicester got relegated because they couldn't keep the ball out of their own net, they scored enough to stick in prem

  5. Why Maddison chose Spurs over Newcastle is strange. Spurs 0 Europe, Magpies in UCL. Same or rather better wages in Newcastle. I guess he wants to live in London.

  6. Don's point about Ward-Prowse is valid. Midfield leader that is a free kick specialist like few others on the planet. Good passer, can score a few from open play and defends quite well despite smaller stature. Liverpool need central midfielders last time I checked.

  7. Wait wait, didnt Pep sign Ake from Bournemouth, Klopp sign Robertson from Hull City? Now can I become a pundit for ESPN FC? I did more research than Stevie in just under 2 minutes xD

  8. Haha I love how all these old players say other some other pros not are and they were worse when they played haha😂

  9. Steve and shaka absolute clowns to be honest. I suppose kane wnet missing just getting 30 goals cos we finoshed mid table. Cant believe these bell ends get on tv.

  10. Steve deserves to be cocaine tested, punished for such delusion, and kicked out the show for having such a hate for a team. what a miserable lad

  11. Yes when a team is playing badly players don’t look as good, who’d have thought it.
Anyway glad Nicol doesn’t think much of Maddison, as he’s pretty much wrong on everything all the time.

  12. Nicole would dream to have the ability Maddison has.

Bang average full back in the day good at kicking people when you could get away with it

Add to that he played for Scotland they never went missing did they 😂😂

  13. Finally a sureshot blockbuster signing! Have been wanting this guy on board for ages…cant believe Levy actually did it ! 😊 already a better season then last time 😛

  14. Stop it ESPN. The level of disdain from your pundits to Spurs is ridiculous and unprofessional. Your pundits are ‘not serious people’. That’s why your show has such low ratings and so many people rag on it. Because of the pundits and this host.

  15. Yes, Stevie. You’re correct. He’s a bottler when it matters. Explains why he is fourth on the list of combined list of PL goals and assists for the the last five seasons. The chuckling hyena of a host, is excruciating in how clueless he is. As a journalist, his job is to provide balance. Not be a chuckling monkey.

  16. My god the hate this channel has for spurs is unreal … there most be bad blood somewhere to have developed this much hate …. don't watch this channel because there line ups are wash ups but alway have a listen when it's about slurs or one of there players and yet never heard a nice thing said

  17. Nicol snd Hislop being idiots again I see. Spurs have finished in the top 6 for the last 14 seasons and in that time have been In the top 4 on 7 occasions. The 9th richest club in world football. Hardly a midtable team.

  18. Don’t Arsenal fans say they have a world class goalie and defender in Ramsdale and Ben White? Didn’t they both get relegated like 6 times?

  19. I love Stevie but I respectfully disagree with his take (and I'm not even a Spurs fan). Andy Robertson, Georginio Wijnaldum, Roy Keane, James Milner, Joe Cole. I'm sure there are more, but what is the common factor among these players? They were all bought from relegated teams and went on to perform magnificently in their new teams.

  20. Tottenham mid table team having a laugh so whats chelsea then if we gonna base on spurs being out of Europe is mad these pundits are clueless its mad i am spurs fan but at same time not saying we are better than Chelsea by a long run but it mad the hate we get Chelsea finished 12th and they are in a massive rebuild and the owner is learning as he goes its a different chelsea 1 year ago. And on top Liverpool did not do what they have been doing but does not mean they are not able to get back but for us its over its mad. I remember when we got top 4 for the first time ppl was writing us off now Newcastle get top 4 its totally different. And trust i have nothing against Newcastle they were really good last season but this season is the big test is keeping ur spot and moving forward. Anyway new season new clean slate we go again.
