  1. He’s not blocking Lenos view but he is interfering. Keeper doesn’t know akanji is offside and therefore can’t commit to the dive in case akanji alters the path of the ball

  2. Ah it's just a joke, VAR was supposed to remove controversy when now we are discussing VAR constantly and even making little TV shows about it.

  3. what is the point of now saying the goal should have been disallowed? the refs won't learn from their mistakes, there doesn't seem to be any actual accountability for the mistake, nothing happens to those in the wrong.. this just feels like a way to make 'celebrity' referees

  4. They’ve made a simple situation so complicated and ended up confusing themselves, you can tell they’re panicking looking through the rules to try and get the right decision. Just use yours eyes come on. The rules should be looked at when there might be a grey area not on every basic simple decision. Everyone could see he was impacting the play. COMMON SENSE !!!

  5. The premier league really should hire people who watch games from there sofa's…. everyone barring city fans knew that was offside😂… how are shity getting away with var decisions every game…. and people call us LiVARpool….

  6. Akanji literally fully swings at the ball as he jumps over it if he's not there Leno is moving across earlier and makes the save. Simple offside no goal decision.

  7. shouldnt of been a goal akanja stuck his leg out wich interfirred with leno thought procces he stayed there becasue he thought akanji would alter the path of the ball bad ref

  8. Yes it should have been disallowed – I don't care what they said on the day, its clear that he 'interrupts' the GK in his movement. The GK thinks he is going to 'play' the ball which means he changes 'position' and then is 'out of' position to reach the ball to make the save. He would have kept moving towards the ball had he 'expected' the Ball to continue on its path. The fact that Akanji has clearly had an 'impact' on the GK and is ''offside' means this goal should not stand. If Akanji hadn't been there, this would likely of been a 'routine' save for the keeper but was affected by the position and movement of Akanji in front of him – therefore offside!!

Compared to the goal Szoboszlai scored vs Aston Villa with Salah maybe in an offside position, it never affected the Keeper at all.

I'm glad that they are at least 'recognising' their mistakes with VAR. VAR should be there to 'support' the Refs in getting the 'correct' decision. Its not re-reffing a match, its providing support and another perspective that the ref can't get on the 'field' to make the 'correct' call. Refs should not 'fear' VAR and should be more afraid of getting it 'wrong' as a 'group' of officials of which VAR is now part of. Like the Linesmen being afraid of making a 'wrong' offside call and relying on Technology in 'tight' decisions. Refs should be afraid of giving Goals, Red Cards, Penalties etc erroneously today far more than 20yrs ago as they have the advantage of 'technology' to help the 'team' get the Correct decision. The ONLY way to improve as a 'collection' of Professionals is to work together to ensure that they get the 'right' decisions consistently – whether on the field at the time or with the help of Technology (VAR, Goal Line tech, offside tech) – that was brought in to 'help' get to the correct decisions – not keep making mistakes that VAR should have corrected and virtually the majority of fans, players, managers etc knew they messed up…

What is the point of VAR if you don't use it to get the 'correct' decisions???

  9. How on earth can they make the correct decision when everyone is shouting, flustered and talking over each other like that? What a mess…

I personally think they need to be accompanied by an an ex-professional player to assist with decisions like these. It's clear that no-one in that room has played the game.

  10. Instances like this should be offside for me, standing there is deffo gonna "impact the ability" of the goalkeeper. The fact he doesnt touch the ball is irrelevant, the goalie still has to assume he might touch it, so the goalie can;t commit one way or the other. Its a bit daft in my opinion and hope it changes in coming seasons.
