When Football Turns Violent: The Incident of the Attacked Goalkeeper

In 2011, AFC Ajax and AZ Alkmaar met each other in the round of 16 of the Dutch Cup. The match at the Amsterdam Arena was abandoned in the 36th minute with AZ trailing 1-0 after Esteban Alvarado was sent off for kicking the supporter who had launched a karate-style kick at him.
