In the summer of 2023, the Kylian Mbappe story took another turn. 2022 included his dramatic u-turn in not joining Real Madrid. But this year, the saga involved leaked letters, ultras, world record transfer fees and mysterious Instagram posts.

This is the story of Mbappe’s summer of chaos.

Seb Stafford-Bloor explains, Marco Bevilacqua illustrates.

  1. Don’t forget to add that he came back even stronger and scored the 1st goal for PSG this season. And got 5 goals in 3 games now, top scorer for PSG w a game in hand. Mbappe is the best player in the world of football rn.

  2. Why would real go for this clown if he’s liable to try to pull this rodeo with them for bigger contracts every year? 😂😂

Better off just letting Haaland get sick of pep like every other non Messi striker.

  3. Good for Madrid though
    Signed Camavinga in 2021
    Tchouameni last season

    Bellingham this szn
(Though Madrid didn’t make any contact to PSg this time)

  4. No club should touch this man with a 10ft barge pole. Yes he’s arguably the best player in the world but his ego and narcissism will destroy the changing room and therefore the team. The clubs end up being all about him and only him and if he doesn’t get what he wants, he sulks and cries about it and in turn causes negativity around the club with owners, teammates and fans. Too much drama basically. There’s a reason PSG didn’t win anything and don’t tell me it isn’t partly down to Mbappe’s narcissism.

  5. Mbappe is overrated. Fast, sure. Skilled, true. But leagues away from the best players of all time.
Once his speed wanes, he will just be above average

  6. Mbappé is a really good player, but he seems too egocentric. I believe he will stay with PSG with an even powerful contract, became a football legend and the club idol

  7. It’s crazy to me how PSG were crying to Mbappe about FFP yet they still were spending like crazy (220M in Dembele, Kolo Muani and Ramos alone)

  8. I hope Mbappé stays in France and bring us a champions league I have enough of seeing all our young talent going in the UK/Spain/GE or Ita..

  9. You cannot blame Mbappe this season. If you want someone to blame then blame the fake journalists that were saying he was coming this summer. Florentino and Mbappe made it clear that he would be staying this season and after he will in 2024. Florentino said he would get him next summer 2024. Now that didn’t work out the fans want to blame him and how he rejected madrid. Also y’all say he’s an attention seeker when all he did was he said he wasn’t leaving but y’all don’t know who to blame.

  10. The most shameful and greediest player ever. I hope no one idolizes him and he is deserted from the game by everyone. His family and he need to be taught a lesson in the limits of human greed and public shamelessness. Being a RM fan myself, I hope he never joins us and if he does which seems the more likely option, he ends up becoming the most monumental failure of all time, even more than Hazard. He does not deserve a good career after this shameless behavior over the past couple of years!

  11. He might be one of the best players of this generation, but his ego and attitude is absolutely trash. If he doesn’t fix up nobody would wanna be teammates with him

  12. The fact he has psg by balls is hilarious. They went from he will be sold, to he will not play to actually playing. Joke of a club. They will always be Europe’s biggest flop

  13. PSG is a prison, a golden prison but still a prison (with no trophies if not League 1)… The way the club is managed and the way the management behave with players and their agents is absolutely terrible (Mbappè, Verratti, etc). I would hope for a Uefa action on PSG, but unfortunately PSG owns Uefa in their own pocket (as shown in the past, FFP for example)

  14. Still baffled Madrid are so obsessed with him. Yes, he's the best player in the world, but he's not a striker, he's a left-sided forward who can play centrally. They have a guy named Vinicius Jr. that likes to play in the same positions. It's never been a great fit. Madrid should have gone for Kane or Haaland, especially with Benzema leaving. If rumors are to be believed, in some ways Mbappe is the best thing that could have happened to PSG, because he wanted to get rid of players like Messi and Neymar who didn't care about the club or integrating, he wanted more French players to come in, less flashy names and better fit, and it's early right now but PSG is not as talented as they were last season, but they look a much better and more balanced team with depth. They don't have nearly 250m in wages tied to 3 players now (with one of those players being injured half the time) and trying to make do with the rest of the squad. They're on the right track with Enrique, and I like their squad. I don't think it's still good enough for the CL, but they're at least a valid contender with depth in the attacking position, but their midfield is still suspect, although Ugarte has been nothing short of sensational so far.

  15. Modern football is 10% sport and 90% "Keeping with the Kardashians". I miss the time in 2000's where it was just a sport and all you had to do was tune in to watch your favourite teams perform and compete every week, and all you had to do was keep track of league tables/cup competitions. Now it's a 24/7 reality show with mommy issues, daddy issues, victim complexes and instagram/tik tok nonsense–with an occasional good game of football here and there.
