USMNT Head Coach Gregg Berhalter joins Colin Cowherd to discuss World Cup group play and how they will fare up against England. Berhalter shares their mindset playing in the Group tournament as the youngest team in the World Cup and the game plan against England with a young, attacking squad. He also shares his expectations for Christian Pulisic and why Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie are young stars to watch on the USMNT. Berhalter explains why the USWNT’s success does not add more pressure on his squad.

  1. He is right this cup is very different. I dont think Qatar has many stripclubs or skanky pubs and that will affect the more mature players of Europe who like to party on the dirty side. I am very excited about this one.

  2. Great interview! Fun to listen to. Thanks Colin! Excited for the upcoming World Cup, Womens Euro final and Wayne Rooney's D.C. United managerial debut on Sunday!!

  3. Besides the lead off mispronunciation of Greg's surname, not a bad interview…
Now, let's see if the anti-American Joe or Jim or Jamie Rome could actually have a professional interview with Greg…

  4. while i'd love to attack england, goals against/for may impact where you finish in the group. so giving up as few goals to them as possible is the game plan. hope for a draw.

  5. I'm from England and feel that they're focusing too much on the England game and could get caught out against the other two in the group.
Most of the other England fans I've spoken to feel that the US will be our hardest game in the group (on paper) and could lose that game, but won't waste too much time/energy focusing on the US as Wales and Iran are going to be very tight games where you play for the same points as anyone else.
In addition to this, England have recently been in their worst form since Southgate first took over in 2016, and the majority of people who know the game well here, are predicting they are going to have a very poor tournament. Quite possibly finish 3rd and go out in the group stage (especially if they don't win our first game).

  6. IMO the best sport in the world but man is it nice to see this from Colin since big American talk shows don’t talk about it. Its a shame because so many people are missing out on it!

  7. England is too proud to not step on gas and attack attack attack. Add that to being serial underachievers, US takes the groups and England has a must win third game

  8. Great interview. As an England fan, USA are deeper than any team from their history. Wales have been strong in recent history but will slip up under pressure, no disrespect to Iran but they won't cut it therefore I see us and USA going through. USA have enough experience to lift their team. Interested to see how their players perform throughout the season!

  9. I was born in Argentina, so my first team in the World Cup will always be the albiceleste. But I always root for team USA, I’ve lived here for 22 years now and I’ve gotten to see how the sport grows here. I just wish the USA fans, were crazier, I wish they had a true ultra.

  10. Not a big soccer fan, but starting to get hyped for World Cup. I’d be happy just to see them win one game in the WC

  11. other people in sports need in America to know that this is a game where you f*** around with the other team as much as you can you possess the ball you don't always go north and south like you do in football score as quick as you can and a lot of ways the more you can f*** with the team the better you are off even if that doesn't include scoring right away so with that the case it's important that teams know each other you know the other players going to do before he does it possession requires that

  12. eventually American soccer will have to take the jump risk the leap the question can always be how do we get all the stars together because they're playing in a league in another country the goal should get to be to have that League here that them produces players that then produces continuous good national team runs but yes we're going to have to make that risk and that's probably going to include some really down years

  13. Greg and his team look ready to roll to me and I think are going to really play and do well in this World Cup. Like Cowherd said, yeah the GK'er situation isnt what it has been for the U.S in the past but ya know what? So.freaking.what.
I'm tired of the best player on our team being the GK'er, I'm stoked that we have some serious YOUNG (keyword here) talent on in the field, not in net.
Saying that, I think Matt Turner will be our starter in net will do just fine.
I think this team will make the final four in this World Cup.

  14. English guy here…. our "value" may be £1b, but our valuation is always hugely exaggerated (see Harry Maguire @£80m)
We also have a very inept manager who 80% of fans want out. Despite Southgate, we still did OK in the last 2 tournaments. with Arronson, pulsic and Dest I think the US have good chance v England as long as they do not sit back and allow.

  15. Your problem isn't the league's overseas MLS is grown tenfold over the last 20 years and will continue to and it's not that far behind so using as an excuses dry and bland I'd say the problem with American soccer is the backyard issue there's not enough kids that want to continue to play after practice you go to any other country you see kids playing by themselves anywhere and everywhere here you need your little practice structure it starts with the kids and that doesn't result in a strong national team the bigger you can make your pool the better you'll be in the long run it starts with the kids

  16. Are US fans realistic? No they aren't is the coach realist, no he isn't, he should know that his squat did play a difficult qualify, it was not easy to qualify for this tournament , base on what he is that optimistic? US group stage is a difficult group stage, Greg talks about England, forgot Iran and Wales, there in the pocket he thinks,
In the world cup aren't easy matches, he is overrated him self and his team, he has alot to learn from the ladies team that is for sure,
Team US is a young team wiht no experience on a world cup , yes he have good players in his squat who plays in Europe but overall to lest quality, the players need to use this tournament to development themselves and make progress for the future 2026 that is a realistic point of view . Youth have the future, i think this tournament comes to soon for this young squat.
