Virgil Van Dijk compels urgent transfer as Liverpool face trio of choices.
Liverpool’s need for a center-back was already apparent, but this necessity has grown even more pronounced recently. Virgil van Dijk’s suspension and Ibrahima Konate’s injury have only exposed the lack of defensive depth Jurgen Klopp has in the team’s core.
Van Dijk was subsequently shown a red card in the 28th minute for preventing Alexander Isak from having a clear goalscoring opportunity. While he disagreed with the decision, he will be unavailable for the upcoming match against the in-form Aston Villa.
Both Joe Gomez and young talent Jarell Quansah were substitutes, but Klopp’s resources are currently stretched to their limits. The deadline for any transfer business is Friday at 11pm, three defenders Liverpool might consider targeting before that time.
Goncalo Inacio
Liverpool has been actively considering the possibility of acquiring a left-footed center-back. Inacio aligns with this objective and has been associated with a potential transfer to Anfield.
He recently extended his contract, resulting in a boost of his release clause from £38.6 million to £51.5 million.
Liverpool has demonstrated a preference for acquiring players through release clauses this summer.
Perr Schuurs
Liverpool’s name was associated with Schuurs earlier this summer. The Torino standout has also been rumored to attract interest from Arsenal in the closing days of the transfer window.
Schuurs ventured into Serie A just last summer after spending a couple of years with the Ajax first team. Despite not being left-footed, the 23-year-old aligns with the age profile that Klopp is seeking.
Marc Guehi
Liverpool is among several clubs expressing interest in Crystal Palace’s standout player, Guehi. Manchester United, Arsenal, and Tottenham are also monitoring the defender’s performance closely.
Guehi has showcased his talents at Palace after transferring from Chelsea in the summer of 2021. Despite his success, he has not yet committed to an extension beyond his initial five-year contract.
Guehi is versatile, being able to perform well as a left-sided center-back despite being naturally right-footed. His addition would contribute valuable Premier League experience, having already participated in 76 matches for Palace in the competition.
