Liverpool almost opened the scoring two minutes later. Luis Diaz’s stab into the penalty box ended with a shot that was pushed out by Nick Pope.
GOAL Newcastle broke the deadlock in the 25th minute. Anthony Gordon successfully listed his name on the scoreboard.
The goal came from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s blunder when he mistakenly controlled Mohamed Salah’s pass. The ball is loose and can be seized by Gordon, before hitting it into the Liverpool goal. Newcastle lead 1-0.
RED CARD Liverpool had to play with 10 players in the 28th minute. Virgil van Dijk was sent off by the referee for a foul on Alexander Isak.
Newcastle almost doubled their advantage in the 35th minute with Almiron’s shot on target. Alisson made a brilliant save that prevented Liverpool from conceding.
No additional goals until entering the break. The first half closed with the advantage of Newcastle 1-0.
The home team continued to pound the Liverpool defense after halftime. Gordon’s shot ball in the 63rd minute was still sideways from the goal.
Almiron got a golden opportunity in the 75th minute. The ball hit the Liverpool goal post.
GOAL Liverpool equalized in the 80th minute. Substitute Darwin Nunez scored the goal.
Nunez took advantage of Sven Botman’s error and successfully sent a low shot that trailed into the Newcastle goal. Score equally strong 1-1.
BRACE Nunez scored his second goal in injury time. The Uruguayan bomber succeeded in maximizing Salah’s bait into a goal through his hard kick. Liverpool win 2-1!
