Riyadh , Al Nassr successfully made a comeback to beat Shabab Al Ahli with a score of 4-2. These results advanced Cristiano Ronaldo et al. to the group stage of the Asian Champions League.
In the West Zone Playoff match at KSU Stadium, Wednesday (23/8/2023), Al Nassr, who fielded Anderson Talisca, Sadio Mane, and Ronaldo up front, played aggressively from the early minutes.
Talisca gave Al Nassr a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute after Marcelo Brozovic’s header from the corner. After winning, Al Nassr was even pressured by Al Ahli.
As a result, in the 17th minute, Al Ahli equalized the score through Yahya Al Ghassani’s kick following his partner’s cross from the right.
Score 1-1 lasted until halftime. Entering the second half, Al Ahli actually turned 2-1 ahead through Al Ghassani’s second goal in the 46th minute.
Al Ghassani stabbed from the left side past Al Nassr’s defender before beating Nawaf Alaqidi with a close-range shot.
Left behind by one goal, Al Nassr tried to suppress the defense of Al-Ahli. However, several times the chances that Talisca, Ronaldo and Brozovic got, always failed to become goals.
Al Nassr, who was almost frustrated and on the verge of failing to qualify for the group phase, instead equalized the score in the 88th minute. Sultan Al Ghannam made the host public cheer after crossing Ayman Yahya’s cross from the left and scored a goal.
Talisca scored Al Nassr’s second goal in the 96th minute and made his team lead again 3-2. Yahya returned to serve as provider through a cross ball which Talisca headed towards the visitors’ goal.
Brozovic ensured Al Nassr’s 4-2 victory thanks to his goal in the 97th minute. Receiving Ronaldo’s short pass, Brozovic shot from outside the penalty box which made the ball lodge in the corner of the goal.
Al Nassr managed to advance to the Champions League group phase following two other Saudi Arabian clubs, Al Hilal and Al Ittihad.
