Fiorentina bigwig Joe Barone has given an update on Sofyan Amrabat’s future.
Manchester United have been his most persistent and high-profile suitors, and they have even had the green light for a transfer from the player since June.
Yet, Amrabat still remains at Fiorentina because Man Utd do not currently have the funds to sanction a move as departures have proved difficult to get over the line. The likes of Donny van de Beek, Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire should all be long been gone by now, but it has not panned out that way for the Red Devils.
As things stand, Amrabat is still waiting, but with just a few days left in the window, time is running out. Now, Fiorentina boss Joe Barone has broken his silence on the future of some of La Viola’s most sought-after players, including Amrabat.
Speaking to Sky Italia ahead of Fiorentina’s crucial Conference League play-off against Rapid in Vienna, Barone said of whether the likes of Amrabat and former Real Madrid man Luka Jovic will leave this summer: “These are decisions we are making internally.”
“Amrabat is not working with the team,” he continued, “but we have not received any offers for Sofyan and we will see. If there are players who are not happy, [they should] talk to me and we can satisfy them. We are looking at the market for them, we’ll see if any offers arrive.”
He also spoke about Brentford’s interest in Nico Gonzalez, which could have influenced the Amrabat situation after they launched a bid of over €40 million. “Another offer from Brentford arrived today, but Nico is an important player for Fiorentina and for Italian football: Nico is not for sale and will not be for sale because we have to play in an important championship.”
