Man United want to use the Maguire money to sign West Ham midfield target Amadou Onana from Prem rivals Everton.
Ten Hag is not content with signing one Onana this summer according to The Daily Mail. As he also wants the towering Everton midfielder as an alternative to Sofyan Amrabat, another reported Hammers target.
West Ham had been heavily linked with Everton midfielder Onana of as a replacement for Declan Rice until recently.
Fans will remember Everton came in at the 11th hour to beat West Ham to the £33m signing of the Belgian last summer.
The Toffees swooped and offered Onana a greater guarantee of a starting spot and Moyes reportedly pulled the plug on the move.
With Rice and Manuel Lanzini having left West Ham and both Flynn Downes and Lucas Paqueta looking likely to follow them out of the club, West Ham are thought to be revising their transfer plans to sign three midfielders rather than two.
But any lingering hopes they may have had of signing Onana could be dealt a fatal blow by the interest of Manchester United.
Onana, 21, was one of Everton’s top performers during a troublesome campaign in 2022-23. On his day, he can be something of a force of nature in midfield, with the ability to bully opposition players.
Man Utd clearly believe Onana can make the step up and shine for them at Champions League level, while also aiding their push to get in the Prem title race.
