According to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, striker Gabriel Jesus underwent a small procedure on his previously surgically repaired knee to address some irritation that cropped up over the past few weeks and the Brazilian will miss a few weeks.

Based on those comments, this is very likely an arthroscopic “clean-up” procedure in which the surgeon inserts minimally invasive tools through small portals (incisions) in the knee to remove whatever is irritating the knee joint, typically loose fragments of cartilage aka “loose body removal”

The timeline varies on the extent of the procedure but based on Mikel’s comments, this does sound mild. However, Arteta is notoriously vague with timelines to reduce pressure on players.

This isn’t all that alarming or surprising because it’s related to the previous injury rather than a new issue. Clean-up procedures aren’t atypical in these cases to deal with residual affects and you might be surprised how many are done in the privacy of early summer. It comes with the territory.

Overall, it’s not that big of an issue but the downside is that Jesus was just starting to look like the Jesus of old fitness and rhythm wise – particularly vs Barcelona for example – and now he’ll have to build that back up again. That ramp up won’t be nearly as long but it’s still a delay.

In the meantime, the Gunners will look to other options for their initial slate of games. I’ll keep you updated as we learn more information.

  3. Technology so awesome nowadays. I am sure they can fix it. Wish they fixed fernando Torres after his injury he was never the same

  4. Could you do a video on what parts of the body generates the power when kicking the ball? And could you do a video about how Messi's hand gestures are and what difference they make (if they actually do any, I heard from a person he forms his hands in different ways for different reasons but it may be untrue)
