Manchester United will need to pay at least €40million (£34.5m) if they are to sign Benjamin Pavard this season, according to reports.
Erik ten Hag has been scoping out defensive reinforcements after United agreed a £30m bid from West Ham for Harry Maguire. Growing frustration in the Hammers’ camp over a delay means that a deal is now unlikely, with the centre-back demanding nearly £10m to leave.
Nonetheless, depth at the back remains a point of interest for Ten Hag and Pavard is among several targets on his radar. The French international is said to be keen on a move but 90min reports that Bayern Munich will accept no less than £34.5m for their man.
The report adds that the two clubs were working towards a deal for around £30m, only for the German side to alter their stance – something that has angered Pavard. Bayern could rule out an exit entirely if they fail to sign Kyle Walker from Manchester City.
Elsewhere, The Independent reports that United ‘turned down’ the chance to sign Brazilian international Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain.
The former Barcelona winger is closing in on a €90m move to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal. However, it is claimed that United were one of a handful of big-name European clubs who ‘turned down’ the opportunity to sign him, along with the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
The size of the overall package was said to be the main reason behind concerns, with Neymar likely to demand a huge salary – he will be paid €200m-per-year at Al Hilal.
