Neymar is leaving Europe to join Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia, bringing to an end his tumultuous time with PSG. With the Parisian club, we saw moments of brilliance that were often shortly-lived given his sudden horrible injury record (he played in only 50% of PSG’s matches, all told). But prior to his time with PSG, he was on track to potentially surpassing Ronaldo and Messi. So, should Neymar’s time in Europe – the elite level of football – be considered a success, or a failure?

  1. He had the chance to remain under the tutelage of one of the greatest of any generation, left and went to a club where he was relegated to the second best under some teenager who thinks of you as a nobody 😂
    Poetic? Yes

  2. I do have to say that his achievements are also diminished being that he played in the French league. When he was in Spain he was putting up better numbers in a better league. PSG is a disease to football.

  3. He fell short. Saying he failed would be unfair as he was still an amazing player. Just when he felt like it though, and that's why he didn't reach his full potential

  4. Neymar didnt fail, but he had for sure a better life besides football. Enjoying his life, always party, every week a new girl, unlimited money to spend on poker, he just enjoys life

  5. By 23 years of age Neymar had won the treble, 2 laliga titles, I confederation cup and had already been nominated in the Ballon D’or top 10 five times already and then for the rest of his career the only thing he would add to this list was ligue 1 trophies. Like it or not Neymar did fail.

  6. He succeeded. The guy at Barca was a monster, at PSG when fit and firing he was unstoppable. HOWEVER, this was the guy that should have beat Ronaldo and Messi to a Ballon D’or. The bar was set so high, and his luck was shit. But he will still be always remembered

  7. He is a great player, no doubt. But, he absolutely blew it when he left MSN in BCN. That front three was unfair to the opponents and Barca could have won more Champions League titles had he stayed, and he could have still be there as Messi's successor.

  8. Even tho i don't like his lifestyle and attitude on the pitch i think Neymar succeeded in the world of football. He is known around the world has a super unique way of playing and diving.
And is generally a joy to watch for sure. Oh, and don't forget the memoreable Neymar memes. Yeah, people love him, people hate him, so he surely is a success.

  9. Didn’t fail but his talent and ability was good enough to be in the top 4 footballers of all time if he achieved his potential. Very disappointing. His career post Barcelona feels like a waste.

  10. He fell short. Great players can perform and compete at the highest level on a consistent basis. Neymar, though plagued by injuries, never seemed to have the mentality required to be an elite footballer. He will go down as one of the biggest "What ifs?" in modern football, thought.

  11. Neymar being injured at key moments due to crude tackles. Makes Pele's achievements even more incredible. Considering the amount of hacket men around during his era
